This is one of my favorite books. It is a story about an artist who becomes a pastry chef in New York, and about relationships, and, perhaps most importantly, about how a woman recognizes the power of her Jewish culture through her family recipes, many of which are included in the book. Warm, engaging, and a real eye-opener for anyone who ever wondered about what happens in the kitchens of fine restaurants.

A mostly true bio of an artist's transition to becoming a pastry chef and ties in stories of her Jewish family, especially the women and their baking. Very nice read - not too heavy, but not completely light. I have no desire to try out the recipes in the book. They sound too hard for my simple cooking skills.
