A member from another thread wrote the following: When you add a book to your WishList, NEVER add one that has the abbreviated ISBN; you will never get it. Those abbreviated ISBN's are used to post books without an ISBN. It's a short 1-time only number assigned to that book only. You can never get it from the WL. Always be sure the WL version to wish for is a full ISBN number. I just posted a WL book with one of those short ISBN's. Is it true that it will never be taken ? What do I do then? The book has the exact cover of the longer ISBN, but when I post the ISBN in the back of my book, a different book comes us. This forced me to use the " Post without an ISBN link?. Will my book ever be taken? |

Try posting it in the book bazaar - it will probably get snatched right up! |

Thanks Amy. How would you suggest I title the post. I did put something in the BB, but not sure I worded correctly. |

Rose, That statement doesn't apply to you. It was looking at the Wishlist from the wisher's viewpoint. They are saying that there is no point in wishlisting a book with a 5-digit ISBN because that ISBN was created especially for one copy of the book that someone posted into the system. There will never be another book with that ISBN posted on PBS. If you post a wishlist book that doesn't have an ISBN, and therefore one of those short ISBN's is assigned to that book, an e-mail will be sent to those people who have that title on their wishlist telling them that a book similar to the one they are wishing for has been posted into the system. Of course, that is no guarantee that the book will be requested, so I recommend posting it in the Book Bazaar also as Amy suggested. |

Oh, I get it. Thanks so much, everyone. Much clearer now ;) |

Lynne made a very good point! So, if someone searches for the book by title, yours will come up as being available in the system. How would you suggest I title the post. I did put something in the BB, but not sure I worded correctly. I didn't see what you put, but I would just say something along the lines of "I have WLed book blahblah with a different ISBN". Hope that helps! |

I had wanted The Secret Life Of Bees which is on a million wish lists, but I found it on Book Bazaar under a different ISBN, ordered it from the member's bookshelf and received word today that it has been mailed, so I think going to Book Bazaar and looking there is the best coarse of action. You probably won't find every wishlist book posted there but I bet there are a lot of them. Just finished reading After All These Years by Susan Isaacs. Reading next....I've got so many books in my TBR pile that I never know which one to choose!! I just stand there and see which way my hand reaches!! It never fails to pick just the right one. Check out my bookshelf, lots of good books and I'll always be glad to make deals. Last Edited on: 2/12/08 5:26 PM ET - Total times edited: 1 |

Also note that when you put in the actual ISBN# of your book is it a totally different book or the same book (title, cover type) with just a different picture on the cover. It doesn't have to have the same type picture. |

No, Christy, it was a completely different book/title. Weird. I don't know how publishers are allowed to do that. |

If you ever post a wishlist book with a different ISBN, there is usually a thread on Book Bazaar called "Wishlist Books with a Different ISBN for (Insert current month here)". This is a great way to share and find those wishlist books with weird ISBNs. Kerry |

Rose, your book WILL be requested at some point, it will just take a bit longer. Here are a few ideas to make the wait go faster: - post in the book bazaar like others indicated, making sure you include the book's title in your post's title (non-ISBN wishlist book "x" available) - include a signature on your forum posts with this same information - start a "public service thread" in one of the forums (maybe book bazaar?) reminding people that if they have books on their WL they should periodically search for them by title or author just in case the books are listed under no ISBN -- this is always great info to remind people of and you can plug your book at the same time as an example Last Edited on: 2/12/08 6:36 PM ET - Total times edited: 1 |
