I wasn't sure how to search for this answer -

Is is common to get 'wish granted' emails asking if you want a book that is already in the mail to you from having accepted a similar 'wish granted' email the week before?

The book was no longer on my Wish List - in any form - but it still stung to deny the request, because getting this book through PBS has fallen through a couple of times already (one or two people cancelled, one was lost in the mail).

Maybe this is just a fluke?

I am thinking that despite R&R's best efforts, there are  some glitches in the system.  As you may notice from a question I just posted, I have books that I mailed and were received that have remained on my Bookshelf.

In your case, if it is a popular WL book----say a NYT bestseller, I'd go ahead and accept the book, especially if there is a long list of people hoping for it---no problem sending it back out if you get dupes.  In the case of a more obscure book, I'd probably refuse, because if you need to WL again, the sender will still have it.  Or you could PM the lister and explain the situation.  I too have experienced "the cursed book" and had several transactions on one title fall thru several times before I finally got a copy in my hot little hands, and if there was not a huge demand for a book, I'd be willing to work with the requestor.  But if you have been cursed several times, I am guessing we are working with an in-demand title.

Good luck!

I got an email that a Wish List book was available.  I ordered it.  My order was accepted.  The book was marked mailed by the sender.  The next day I got another email that another form of the book (HC vs PB) was on a WL hold for me!  I denied the 2nd request--there's no way the first book will get to me within the 48 hour WL hold window, and since (knock wood) I haven't had any books lost in the mail yet, I'm taking it on faith that the first one will arrive.

Incidentally, another WL book became available to me at the same time as the 2nd copy of the original book.  3 WL offers within as many days!
