Okay, here's the story.  Got a WL book offered to me, I accepted, he said he'd mail within x days but it was never marked Mailed so the transaction canceled.  Within a day or two I got a PM from the Sender that he had, in fact, mailed the book but had been ill & hadn't marked it as such.  I replied that it was no problem, I'd put the book on Hold in my WL, I would mark it Received from the Transaction Archive when I got it & wished him well in his recovery.

Did get the book.  But it was RWAP! crying Has some kind of small, goopy smear on the inside front cover & title page, along with a few tiny chunks of food (I actually hope it's food, rather than a grosser alternative).  I marked it RWAP through the Transaction Archive, damaged by Sender, but 2 things happened that I didn't expect:

1. There was no place to make a comment about the problem. I thought you were made to explain the problem & I wanted to, but mainly I wanted to state that I did not want my credit back. I didn't get that oppourtunity. This older guy drug his sick butt to the post office to mail this book to me & I want him to have his credit.  I'll buddy him one if this doesn't resolve itself in a day or two, but I'm just wondering it there's a glitch.

2. It specifically spells out when you're logging a book in through the TA rather than through the regular receiving system, that when you choose to mark it RWAP, the Sender will get a credit from you.  Well, it didn't deduct a credit from me & still showed *canceled* in the TA. I tried it again. Same thing. Isn't it supposed to show a broken checkmark or broken X or something.  I'm not positive 'cause I've only RWAP'd 1 other book. Does it not deduct the credit immediately?

Thanks for any comments or suggestions.

Edited for clarity (I hope)!

I don't think you can change it after it was marked received without a problem...........that's why it is ALWAYS better to actually wait for the book to arrive. I don't know what the deal is with the credit but had you waited and marked it RWAP you would have gone back to 1st on your WL.

Oh, sorry, Toni, I guess I wasn't clear. I did wait until the book arrived to mark it Received.  The weirdness is marking it through the Transaction Archive instead of the regular way.  I'm assuming by marking it RWAP, which I did, I'll be first on the WL again, but I should check that, too.

ETA - Yep, I'm still #1

That's an odd one Leslie.  I also thought the credit transfers were immediate.  Check your Credit Archive, if it doesn't show a credit 'debit' in 5 minutes or so it probably isn't going to happen.  May be a quirk of marking RWAP from your archive.  But at least you wouldn't need to argue with the sender for credit return indecision

Appears all you have to do is unhold the book if you want a clean copy.

You needed to let the sender know to mark the book as sent.  That's the reason why you couldn't "receive" the book in a normal manner.  This happened to me once.  I generally send books the same day I receive the request.  I sent a book and the member received it one day after I sent it  (5 states away) and I hadn't marked it as sent.  They sent me a reminder to mark it as sent so they could mark it as received.  We both remarked on how the book made it 5 states away in one day.  It was sent first class, but that has to be the fastest I have seen a book arrive.

Leslie, it isn't how the site says it should work, but the same thing happened to me.  I requested a book, the sender PMed that they mailed it but missed marking it mailed, I received it and marked it received with a problem on the transaction archive.  My credit balance was not changed.  I got my credit back when the request timed out, but one was not deducted when it was received with a problem.  I PMed her and explained the issues (with the book and marking it received) and she said that since she would have returned my credit anyway, not to worry about it.  I just took the hold off of the book on my WL and got the next copy.

Toni, the book is Mean Streets (it's a collection of short stories).

Kate, it timed out on the Sender & so was canceled; he had no way to mark it Mailed, but I could mark it Received in the TA -- it just didn't *take*!

Jenna, okay, sounds like my scenario & yours are the same.  I'll PM the guy, thanks!

Thank you for your feedback, everyone smiley
