So, I just picked up a bunch of books and it turns out that different versions of them are wishlisted. Some of the books I listed were without ISBNs. My question is, since there is no way to wishlist a book without an ISBN (right?), is there a way that wishers are notified when the same title is listed *without* an ISBN? Do they get one of the "similar book posted" emails, if they subscribed? Thanks...

When making lists of WL books to look for at sales I have found quite a few WLed that didn't have an ISBN...

What I would do is put a note in my Siggy and post it in the Book Bazaar...

I'm not sure if they will get the "similar book posted" but I would think they would.  You might also try posting the books in the bazaar under the "wishlisted books with different ISBN" thread.  I know lots of people look there, including me. :)

Are yours the same binding? I would check to see how many of my ISBN were in the system.  You can do this by adding them to your Reminder List.  If there a some already in the system-then most likely these people want the specific version they have on WL.  Either they collect hardbacks, need lrg print or want audio.  I have some James Patterson and Anne Perry books in audio CD format on my WL.  I turned off the emails because I don't want a paperback or hardback version. I want the audios and I'm willing to wait for them.  If yours are the only copy, then I'd advertise them in the book bazaar and put them in your signature. You could even tag the WL versions w/the ISBN you have posted. Something like "Posted w/ISBN#X"-then delete when the book gets ordered.

there is also a thread in the book bazaar for books that are WL'd but you have a different copy/ISBN

I don't have it in my watch threads but I know it is out there!

The answer to your question about whether WL'rs for a particular title get a "similar edition" email for a book listed without an ISBN of the same title, the answer is no. Unfortunately, the system does not notify people when these are listed. I wish it did, but if you look up How the Wish List Works  in the Help Center, you will see under the paragraph BASICS:

Non-ISBN items do not work well with the Wish List:

  • Since each non-ISBN listing refers only to ONE copy of a book, that will be the only book that triggers a WIsh List offer if a non-ISBN item is put on a Wish List
  • Non-ISBN items are not "linked" to any other items in the database, and will not trigger "similar-to-wished-for-item" alert emails.

For the answer to my question and more!  I couldn't find the "Wishlisted without an ISBN" thread near the top in the Bazaar, so I started a new one.  I am hoping that other people will feel free to use it for their own books too.
