So, if I post a book that someone wants, but it isn't the same isb as their WL, do they get notified that someone has posted a similar item? Or does my book, which is identical in content, but a different isbn, just sit in limbo? For example, there are five or more members waiting for "A Separate Peace" (some are even waiting for "A Seperate Peace" - how did that get posted?). I have a copy, I even have a copy that matches the picture on several of the isbn s, but my isbn is different, so I can't just click on "post", because the ibsn s don't match. So, far, although several people want this book, no requests and no holds on my book.

What you can do is to go to the book that is wishlisted and add a tag. Something along the lines of 'available under ISBN XXXX'. There are times that someone is looking for a certian book and they may not be interested in a different version.

ETA - I just looked and there are many many versions available for order.....

Here's a Help Center doc that might be of interest:

Help Center - My book's on the Club Wish List, with a different/no ISBN

Search Terms:

If you Posted a wished-for book but it is on your Bookshelf and is not being requested or offered in a Wish List hold, that means that no members are currently wishing for your version of the book. (You must not Post your version using the listing with the otherISBN!) Post your book properly, using the ISBN on your book, and checking to be sure that the book information (title, author, booktype) on the listing matches your book.

When you post your book properly using its ISBN:

All members who are Wishing for other ISBN versions of the book (and who have not opted out of getting the alert emails) will be sent an alert email by PBS.
- The email will be titled "An item similar to your Wished-for book has been posted.."
- This email will contain a link that the Wishers can click to request the version you have posted.
- If no one requests your book, that means
  - no one currently wishes for this version of the book = the email was sent, but the members who got it didn't want your version
  - the wishers have chosen to "opt-out" of the similar-item emails altogether (this can be done in the Account Settings) = no email was sent to these wishing members
  - your copy is not the only copy of this alternate ISBN available, and members did respond to the email and ordered the book, but the request(s) went to members who had posted this version earlier than you did, because of FIFO (see How to Wrap a Book for an explanation of FIFO) = the email was sent, and wishing member(s) ordered the book, but did not order your copy
  - the wishers have their accounts on hold and their Wish List items are not triggering email alerts = the email was not sent to these wishing members
  - your book does not happen to be linked in the database to a Wished-for version (not all alternate titles are linked in the database; this depends on the information the publishers provide to the compiler of the database we use, and books can't be "linked" after the fact) = no email was sent when you posted your version

If your book does not have an ISBN but its title/author is the same as one on the Club Wish List:

These "similar-item" email alerts are NOT sent out for non-ISBN items
You can advertise your book in the Book Bazaar Discussion Forum if you like
- There is a topic in that Forum just for different versions of Wish Listed books
- These "advertised" items often get quick requests.
- To get to the Book Bazaar:
  - Place your cursor over Community in the toolbar at the top of the site
  - Click Discussion Forums in the menu that drops down
  - Scroll down the Discussion Forums main page to see the Book Bazaar in the list
  - Click Book Bazaar to enter that forum.

If your book has an ISBN, but it is not on the Club WIsh List, and the only items that match the title of your book on the Club Wish List are items without ISBNs (non-ISBN items are listed with 5 or -digit numbers in place of the ISBN):

This usually means that at some point in the past, members wishing for any version of that title clicked all UnPosted listings in the PBS database, including the listings without an ISBN.
- They may not have realized that non-ISBN items are unique and represent ONLY that specific copy of the book posted by one member.
- Since non-ISBN items are not linked to any other items in the PBS Database, they are not automatically removed from your Wish List when another version of that title is marked received.
- Those Wishers have probably gotten a version of this book that has an ISBN long ago, and neglected to remove the non-ISBN version(s) from their Wish Lists manually.
- non-ISBN items are periodically removed from the Club Wish List by the system.
Again, you should post your book properly, and if you want to "advertise" its availability to the membership, you can do so in the Book Bazaar, as described above.

Also, often, if people really want a book, they will search on the title. Particularly if it is an older WL book with lots of editions. Unless there are many copies in the system, it's bound to be requested fairly quickly. You can check to see how many of the edition you have are already in the system by placing it on your Reminder List.

There's over 250 copies of that book in the system in various editions. You can see this by putting the editions on your RL. My guess is the ones that are WL are only WL because there's something special about that edition (large print, a specific cover pictures, hardcover etc.., ) or they are lefover over wishes on inactive accounts that haven't been flagged for inactivity yet.

I'd probably just donate it myself but I have alot of credits and no book storage space. But anyway, I wouldn't jump through hoops to get it noticed to those wishers. If they are active on PBS they probably already know that there are lots of copies on PBS for them to order and they want that WL one for some reason or another.

The images showing don't necessarily indicate what the posted book looks like. If someone who is uploading an image for a title can't find a good image for that edition -- or doesn't know what the edition looks like -- it's okay here to upload a good image that has the same title and author, and that isn't misleading. (The image shouldn't say "first time out in paperback" if it's for a hardcover, for example.)

I am one who doesn't care about what ISBN I get (e.g., doesn't have to match my wishlist). How do I see tags? Looking at my wishlist queue, all I see is a [Tag] button. When I click on the book itself, I don't see anywhere to click to see the tags associated with the book.

I took a look, and all the wishlisted versions of A Separate Peace seem to be hardcover. I'm assuming most of them actually want the hardcover version and not the readily available paperback.

To see a book's tags, click on the title, then scroll all the way to the bottom. For example, the book Alone, ISBN 9780553584530, has a lot of tags members have added at the bottom. If you like a particular tag, you can "vote" for it by adding the same tag yourself. This will help move it up to the "popular" tags. To see other books with the same tag, click on the tag itself -- it's a blue link.

Unfortunately there isn't one "different ISBN" tag in the whole "tag cloud". Oh well. (Yes, I do check the Bazaar from time to time.)

Well tagging books with a generic "different ISBN" wouldn't help anyone because how often would people think to just search "different ISBN".

The tagging thing was more helpful before they did that WIKI thing which seems pretty useless to me. I never scroll down to look at the tags at the bottom of a book page. They used to be on top so you saw them easily when you opened a book page.
