This is off topic. There may be a discussion going on about this in another forum but since I can't access them right now (PBS and my ISP, AOL, are having trouble communicating) I thought I'd post here. I was just checking out my WL and noticed a few changes. The first I thought others might want to be aware of was that ALL of my books were set to auto-request. I did have some but not all set that way when I checked 2 days ago. The other changes I noticed were that you no longer have to hover over the (!) to see where you are on the WL, it's there in the box. It also tells you the last time a copy of the book was posted. Different but not bad changes. I just thought maybe others would want to check their WL if they didn't want their books on auto-request.

well crap and it won't let me take it off autorequest either. this sucks. were you able to get yours off auto and keep them off?? |

Ditto what Susanna said! ;) Aack! Well, it'll all work out somehow, right? Please? Maybe it's some intermediate thing where they're switching over and this is a bug? |

ok in CMT they're sayiing the same thing but that if you don't have credits and a wl comes up you'll keep your place in line..but what if all my credits go for stuff I'd rather pass on?? geez. I pared my wl down..stuff is either close or far off that I shouldn't have to worry about it! |

I think they are working out all the kinks right now. Don't bother changing your wish list to off b/c it will just change back when you leave. Eventually there will be an options tab and you can set it to either Auto Request Yes or 48 hour hold. I think. Hopefully they will send out some sort of email letting people know whats up! There are a couple discussions about it on the Questions forum also. ETA: no one thinks the Auto Request is actually working like that right now so you should be fine! I just had a wish list book become available today, and I still had the option of accepting or declining. Wonder what's going on? |

whoa! thanks for pointing this out! I hadn't noticed it at all. When I first joined this site (december 08) , I saw an article in the help section (about the wishlist) about changes they were planning to make to it... this was one of them... making auto-w/l the default and giving the option of 48 hr. hold. There was another change too... something about prioritizing your wishlist. Depending on what you rate each book, you could get it faster or slower. Does anyone know if that is going into effect?? I checked out my email and "club communications" but getting nothing. Thanks for the heads up! Diane |

i did have books posted to my WL after the change, and they didn't go to auto-request even though that's what it said next to them. but i would expect the changes to continue tomorrow, so we'll see. |

I think they are tinkering with it and getting ready to implement the new WL. So they probably don't have all the bugs out yet. I noticed we still have the RL. But I've started tagging my RL books and deleting them before they combine them like planned and I end up with over 1000 books to wade through on one list. Don't worry though-available books will be put on hold and not automatically ordered for you. |

We estimate you'll be offered this book in 98 weeks. LOL |

There must have been a glitch or something with the auto request, but when I looked at mine this morning, eveyrthing looked to be fine. LOL Janet, I have one that says 116 weeks- guess I better not hold my breath too long for that one! |

I received the PBS newsletter overnight about the WL changes, read it, and went straight to my wishlist. I spent a huge amount of time manually switching off auto-request for nearly every one of my 164 wishlisted books. I just logged in again and checked my wishlist. They didn't default back to auto-request; they are just as I left them early this morning. Jan |

yep, last night everything was showing autorequest - yes, and this morning it's back to normal. plus the your position this is better, as it now shows the same thing you used to get when hovering over the !. but nearly all of my books are showing N/A for an estimate - and now i can see that some of the ones i want that are actually out have never been posted. or not in more than six months. yikes! |

Mine are showing off auto request now, although they weren't working right yesterday. I just hope PBS doesn't regret this change. I don't like it. |

I imagine it'll take some time for the system to process all the info about when some of the books were last posted and such. I had no info on my yesterday and today there's a few that are updated. I also have a couple that haven't been posted in over a year. Also all mine said autorequest yesterday and are back to 48hr hold today. I had a WL offer that I had to accept today. You might want to look at your WL though-people on the CMT are saying that books they deleted a while ago are being put back on their WL. But some also said that even though their WL said autorequest they were still asked to accept the book-it didn't just order it for them. Last Edited on: 4/1/09 5:35 PM ET - Total times edited: 1 |

I like the new information, helps me decide what to leave on my wish list and what to purchase elsewhere. If I'm number 15 on a book that hasn't been in the system for over a year. . .no sense wasting space on my WL, there's other books I might actually receive! |

One of the reasons for the changes are so people don't pass over books that are on their WL. In theory, all the books on your WL should be on auto-request because they are all books that you want. |
|||
|
|||
But I like the option to order more books from the person offering the WL book. My Swapa CD account is on auto request and I have found I really miss looking at the other books. (Or CDs as the case may be.) |

if you want to have different RCs for different books, you either have to do it manually, or put a list of things in your RCs for books you're near the top on. if everything is on auto-request, and you have different conditions for different books, you'd have to try to spell them *all* out in the same RC. people are fussy enough about RCs, i surely don't want to have to spell out the decision tree for which conditions the person posting the book should pay attention to! plus i also like to look at the person's bookshelf. but things are not all on auto-request now, so it's still the way it was - which i like. so far the only differences to the WL is to add information. |
