I have been 1 in the queue since October for a book. Today I'm still at 1 however the last date posted was 2/13/2015. What? How did I get passed over? Nothing of mine is on hold. What happened? |
I'm sure that was disappointing to see. Could it have been posted directly to someone else's wishlist (perhaps by a friend)? |
Someone may have posted it to a friend or with a book order or wl multiples. |
Ohhhhh I didn't think of that! |

Good luck Michele getting any WL books from FIFO. I think the majority of WL books are now directly posted to friends WLs and WL multiples. Yet one can always hope for a miracle. |

So that means everyone on PBS needs to friend me :-) |

Michele--Another possibility...if someone has a book on their wishlist on hold, it doesn't appear in the number of people wishing. So, if someone happened to be ahead of you in line, but had their wish on hold when you looked at your position the system would tell you that you're in first position, but if the person then took their wish off of hold, the system would now report that you were in 2nd position. |

laura..maybe but I was 1 on that list since Oct. The book was last posted 2/13/15 so that would've been a long hold. |

The 4 I've had posted to me since Sunday were FIFO as well. I think the addition of more books to my WL increased the odds more than anything. It's only been a few days. Much too soon to notice any real trends. I have 150+ books on my TBR and I spent a few minutes checking to see if the 50+ on WL were wanted by friends. Only 15 or so were on friend's WL. I know this is anecdotal but I have confidence that people are posting into the system, and I just keep plugging along. Look at 'under the hood', things are moving along. It will take a while, but I have to read the books on TBR before I can post them, but post them I will. The four I'm getting this week, in addition to those I buy from outside the system, will be reposted somday too. |

"laura..maybe but I was 1 on that list since Oct. The book was last posted 2/13/15 so that would've been a long hold." Michele, I'm guilty of keeping my WL books on hold for MONTHS on end, years even. I had 30+ books at #1 on hold and just released a dozen or so that I'm finally ready for. Out of curiosity, what was your book? Last Edited on: 2/20/15 12:51 AM ET - Total times edited: 1 |

Michele--In your case, I agree it probably wasn't someone coming off of hold...the timing would have to have been just right, since you've been number 1 on the WL for so long, it's obvious that the book isn't one that's being frequently posted. And for someone to come off of hold just in time to get the book offer but before you notice that you've been bumped down to #2 would be awfully coincidental. On the other hand, most of the books I have on my WL are on hold and have been for quite a while (some since 2010 and 2011!!). PBS reports that I'm in first place on quite a few of them--so if I ever decide I actually want those books and I take them off of hold--it'll bump everyone back in the WL. I know I handle my WL differently than most people, so I'm the oddball, not the norm. And, I do feel for you--I know how disappointing it is when you really want a slow moving wishlist book, think you're the next in line, and then notice it's been posted to someone else. I hope you get a copy of the book posted to you soon!! Edited to add--just saw Leslie's post--so at least I know I'm not the only one out there that has WL books on hold for years at a time! Well, I didn't realize that people kept bookson hold for awhile but that makes sense and for me moving forward, I might do that. I'm not one with an excess of credits so when I get low, I can leave books on hold for a bit! I like that!
Leslie..The Old Gray Wolf by James Doss. That's his last bookand I have them all but that one. Once I could go to 500, I did put every version (except audio) on my list. I really love the 500 WL! |

Ok..now that I looked..I am now 2 of 4 when I was 1 of 3 for awhile, so the hold theory is correct I think! |
There's also the "not now" option. If you get offered a wl book you have a one time option of saying not now. You are skipped but still keep your place in line. |
Oh, I wondered what happened if someone used the not now option! Now I know! |

I've had wl books on hold for over a year now. In series I'd rather wait until I get all of them in order. I don't see the point in taking a wl book away from someone who might read it then and repost if I know I still need one before it and it will be awhile before I get it. Or I sometimes just don't' have the credits then and by the time I did I changed my mind I still have a few of those on there and I don't want to take off yet jic I change my mind again! Also I've had 5 books posted to my this week and all were from friends except for one FIFO. |

I've had several WL books offered already this month and none are from 'friends'. |

I have only ever gotten books from my wishlist. I think I have 2 PBS 'friends'. |

I've received 2 wishlist books recently and neither came from friends -most of mine are much older books or weird dictionaries and don't show up often- and I've posted 4 wishlist books -- but NONE of my 357 friends had any of them wishlisted! So maybe with new releases and series, 'friends' might see them faster, but certainly not true of all books. So many variables! |
I am happy for all of you that actually receive wishlisted books. I guess I stand corrected in my misconception that the majority of books don't go FIFO. That is encouraging to hear. Last Edited on: 2/22/15 6:32 AM ET - Total times edited: 1 |

I occasionally read a couple of the genre forums where "send the WL books directly as multiples" threads exist. I neither list my books on them nor request books from them. When I get a FIFO WL offer, I check the sender's bookshelf for additional books to save them postage. I admit it kind of bugs me (not enough to stress on) that I've been first on some lists for months and see the books being traded, but I have plenty of books to read and only a fraction of the site users read the forums, so I'll get them eventually. And all my books go out FIFO, so if you are waiting on something I'm reading, you'll move up the list at a minimum. |
