I have a book that keeps coming up as a WL item...when I first posted it, it was on WL hold for the 48 hours...ok, that is no big deal.  Well, that timed out and no one was waiting.  Then it got wished for AGAIN and it went on 48 hour hold...that timed out and no one was waiting.  Then it got wished for yet AGAIN....guess what, that one just timed out and no one is waiting.

I usually don't get frustrated with this stuff but, this is getting to be a bit maddening....almost funny it is happening so much with this book.

well, the only thing is at this moment there is no one on the WL for this book but, then a person will add it to their WL and it will be put on hold for them and then time out...it has done this 3 times.

How are you even getting any requests? It says your shelf is on hold

The book is:

Whispers from Yesterday :: Robin Lee Hatcher
ISBN-13: 9781578561513 - ISBN-10: 1578561515

and Tiffanie to answer your question I post my books, take my account off hold very briefly and then put it back on hold.  I am on hold to prevent New offers of books...I am trying to build up  my credits and reduce by TBR pile.

OK, sometime after 5:35pm today someone put it on their WL, I have now taken my account off hold, got the WL Hold on the book, and my account is back on hold....we'll see in the next 48 hours if it will be accepted.  (this is the 4th time)....ROFLOL  just looked and it is the exact same person as the previous 3 times.

Or maybe they see the account is on hold, and don't know what to make of that?

If it was the same person all four times, maybe you should send a PM asking about it? On the other hand, that might come across as hostile, if the person happens to be touchy... Hopefully she'll accept it this time, or someone else requests it before she requests it a fifth time!

Edit: Is she a new member? Does she not know how to accept WL books? I never found it hard to figure out, but maybe she thinks the book will be sent to her automatically, without her having to do anything?...

Nope Zoe the member is not new...has been a member since 2006...and I did send a PM asking if there was a problem.

I'm beginning to agree with you Terri...I think there is a bit of a problem with committment...

Patty...I don't have a WL book pending so I can't look to make for certain but, I didn't think you could see who was sending you the book until you accepted the offer...so, if that is the case there is no way for her to know that my account is on Vacation Hold.

hehehe will the 4th time be the charm or will we move on to #5...(we will know 10/28/08 at 9:02pm ET)

Put in your profile why your account is on hold.  I do the same thing you do.  I have a lot of books in Mt TBR.  If I'm getting a lot of WL offers and not many shelf orders than I'll put my account on hold for a bit.  I had my account on hold for a few months when we were getting ready for our cross country move. I had the same thing happen a couple of times.  A book went WL while my account was on hold. So I take it off hold just to let the book be offered and then it would time out.  It happened 3 times with the same book but a different person was the WLer each time.  While the WL offer is pending you can hit the PM button and see who it is.

I am having WL frustration on the other end. I keep getting a WL offer and the poster lets it go the 2 days before they deny or cancel because of  RCs. It takes 2 days to figure out if someone smokes in their house??? 5 offers so far, although at least once it was the same person accepting and then cancelling. Aargh!.

Mel not everyone comes on everyday. Maybe you've just had a run of PBSers who only come on every few days.

ETA: also they probably post them expecting them to time out on a few people before being accepted which is very common.

My favorite was an obscure old science fiction book I had on my WL.  Then someone posted it just a couple of days later...I was ecstatic!  I have no RC's and this was one of the older DAW books I'll take in almost any condition.

So I accept the offer, and then the request times out after five days.  Huh?  what the heck did you post it for, dummy???

Matt, I had the exact same issue recently - a WL book (that had been on my list for months) was offered, I accepted within minutes of it being offered (I'm on line a lot) - it timed out and I'm back in line. I even PMd the member before it timed out to remind them, and got a reply but it still timed out and they didn't send it. I felt the same as you - why did they post the book if they didn't intend to send it? I didn't bother to PM again - I mean, I can't nag someone into sharing a book with me I guess.

Mel not everyone comes on everyday. Yeah, but why keep posting a WL book and leaving for 2 days??? These are not new members, they should know that the request is coming right away. The last one just posted it again so hopefully she will deny it more quickly this time. What makes it frustrating is this book seems to be posted a lot, I actually had another offer before I even got the PM from the first person who accepted and then cancelled. So while they hold up my request for 2 days #2, 3 and 4 in line are getting the next offers, if they'd just turn it down right away they could go on to #2 and maybe they won't be so picky as to have RCs ;P.

Because people have 5 days in which to accept a book request. Some people only have internet access at the public library. So they post a WL book and then accept (or decline for rcs)  when they go on again.

ETA: also they probably expected it to time out a few times before being accepted which happens quite a bit.

GUESS WHAT!!!!  Yep, this is the 4th time this requestor has let this book Time Out without accepting and hey I even PM'd her and she didn't respond to that either.  Has only been a little over an hour and she hasn't put it back on her WL...usually takes her 24 hours...this is becoming a game...I"m not in urgent need for the credit so, I'm having fun with this...

Anyone want to lay a guess how many times this book will be offered before it is accepted?

Maybe if you PM'd PBS they can send her a pm or email and tell her to stop putting it on WL or to accept the book.  My guess is they don't have internet access everyday and so it times out. But then she needs to put it on autorequest or her account on hold and at least answer your PM.  IF there's no other copies in the system maybe you'll get lucky and someone will order it before she can.

mrslefty...if it was a problem or I really needed the credit I'd contact PBS but, as it is it has become a bit of a joke and is actually funny.  I'm interested in seeing how many times it can be offered before it is accepted and I get to mail it out.  I have plenty of credits right now, am actually on Vacation Hold so I don't get any WL books at the present until I get this mountain of TBRs decreased to just what will fit on the bookshelves...

I posted a WL book one time with 21 people on WL. It timed out or was declined by 7 people I think before it finally was accepted.  It took  a week to finally hit an autorequest person-who then cancelled the request.  Very annoying.

If it's the same person every time, perhaps she has no credits and can't afford to buy any right now? So the book times out and gets removed from her wish list, and then she puts it back on again. Although if that was the case it would be nice of her to just decline the book immediately rather than to keep letting it time out...unless Mary is right and she doesn't have internet access very often. And if that IS the case she really needs to put her account on hold to stop offers.

Otherwise, you may be flirting with the magical 33 day period on this one.

I've never heard of that one. Is that a PBS thing?
