I had a book go lost. Darn thing couldn't make it from the neighbooring state! Anyway, it was put on my reminder list since there are many others (51 to be exact) in the system. I'm wondering if I should go ahead and reorder or wait another week or so to see if it is running really late? I hate to end up with two copies since its not one that is WL.

If you're not desperate to have the book and start reading it (sometimes, we get that way, I know!) then it won't hurt to give the good ole USPS a little more time to deliver the book.  Lost books often -do- show up in the end...

I too would wait for another week or so -- those lost books frequently show up -- and quite often, they were never lost, just mailed late!

Thanks for the advice. I will wait to order. It's for my son but he does have the other 3 books in the series he can start with. It's not like they will all be requested any time soon. ;)

The Help Center recommends waiting 2 weeks before ordering a lost book.

Yep, I would wait too, at least a couple weeks. There are a number of scenarios that might explain the lateness--and sometimes ones that are totally inexplicable! If the book does show up and it was mailed later than what the details indicate it was, be sure to mark that on the received survey in case that person has a habit of mailing books a lot later than they mark them...then PBS can keep an eyeball on them.

I think a friendly PM to the sender might be in line as well.  Just to let them know that although the system marked the book lost, you're planning on waiting a couple of weeks to re-order in hopes that the one they sent will show up.  And that you'll mark it received in the transaction archive if it shows up.

So far I've had three books get marked lost on their way to me.  The first book was actually mailed to me with a post mark dated AFTER it was marked lost--I'm sure as a result of my PM.

On the second, the sender PMed me to say that she was sorry the book had been lost.  Hasn't shown up yet.  It's been about five weeks.  I haven't re-ordered because my TBR pile is huge and who knows?  It might show up some day!

On the last one, the sender has never read the PM I sent her.  Don't know what happened.  I'll probably end up re-ordering this book sometime soon.  Again, I'm not in any hurry though.
