I have requested a few books and I am "waiting on member."

I thought the wait time for a response was 48 hours but it has been longer than that and still shows waiting on member on all three of them.

One of these is a wishlisted item and there is another person behind me in the wishlist.  Obviously I would not want to cancel this item.

On the others though one of them has 17 copies in the system.  Is there anyway to bump down to the next copy?  I am concerned that after almost 4 days with no reply that even if they do respond they will take forever mailing it - or simply forget to.

I still want these books I am just concerned by the long delay.

I have two other books requested the same day one says Status: Accepted - Printed and the other says Will Mail by: 3/18/2009 11:00 PM ET

Am I just being overly concerned?

I am relatively new here but all the other books I have requested have been quite speedy in responding and getting them out.  What really perplexes me is the wishlisted item.  I mean wouldnt the person have known right then and there while they were entering books?

It's 5 days to respond to a book request from you. It's 48hrs to respond to a WL offer to you.

don't cancel-if you cancel a WL book you'll go to the end of the line.

If you cancel a non-WL book and reorder it'll just go to the same person.  Let the system do it's thing.

Not everyone has computer access everday. Some people let requests sit a few days to get them close to Payday or their day off when they can go to the PO.

There are some inactive accounts out there though and by letting yours time out you're helping to remove their books from the system.  If another copy is available the system will pass the request on to the next person.

One of the books was a wishlist though that hasnt been responded to.  :(  That was part of my confusion.  I will wait on them longer though.  Thanks I thought it was 48 hours like the wishlist.

There can actually be over 10 days before a book needs to be mailed.

A WL book gets 48 hours for the requester to accept the offer, and then the other person can opt to have 5 days to mail (plus 2 more to get it marked as mailed) . Often people post WL books in a group in order to send them at the same time. If they have an offer not gettting accepted right away, they may leave the ones that have been accepted sit for a little bit.

A book available in system and ordered gives the sender 5 full days to accept and it would cancel during the following night if it wasn't accepted so it us usually longer than 5 days. Then the person has the option to select the later mailing date and they'd get the 5 days to mail plus the two to mark it.

Patience. The system gives people lots of time to respond. Some of us have had terrible weather lately and places have lost power.

Let me try to clarify this a little...

If you get offered a book that is on your WL, then you have 48 hours to respond to the offer.  If you accept the offer, then they have 5 days to respond to your request.

I'm sure that the person who has been waiting for me to accept an offer isn't happy with me right now.  It's for a book/CD combo that I put on the bookshelf a long time ago and has never had anyone want it...I've had to go on a safari hunt to track it down.  Things around here seem to grow legs and take journeys around the house!  But also I'd like to send out more than one package at a time since I have to rely on family members to mail them.  So I tend to wait hoping that I'll get another order in the meantime.  I'm not being perverse - just trying to be economical.

Thanks for the input that makes more sense.  I never thought about the making a trip to the post office as our mail carrier picks ours up.  Bernhard that does help I guess I thought it was 48 hours either way.

Again Thanks.

I had to hold off on accepting one for the same reason recently Ruth. I could not find that book anywhere. I finally found it-on the shelf where I had looked several times already.  Good thing it wasn't a Cobra.

Mary - I know what you mean.  They say the thing you're searching for will be in the last palce you look (duh!).  But so many times the last place is also the first place I looked!   Must be those pesky book gremlins at work!!
