I have a book coming to me (I hope) I requested on 3/7. It still says waiting for member. I keep getting notifications that the book is available by other members posting it. Can I cancel the 3/7 book and accept the one now available? I know that hardly is fair to the original member but waiting for member means they have not accepted my request yet, correct? If their account is on vacation hold it would not have been available to me right? Help.

I have another book in the same situation that was just updated to member will mail by 3/17.  That confirms to me that the member mentioned above has not even seen my request.

Keep waiting.

What happens is that after five days, your transaction rolls over to the next person in line with a copy of that book.  Tomorrow it will roll over to another person.  If you cancel a request and re-request the same ISBN, you start the waiting period over with the same person, so instead of five days, you could be waiting almost twice as long.

Also, the member could be waiting on purpose so that they can get the maximum amount of mail time possible.  Not all of us can get to the post office every week.

And by waiting it out, you're helping to clear inactive members from the system.  PBS requires you to be patient, but it works!

You are right. Patience, it is only one day.  I am on SWAPADVD and things there are so fast usually.  I am too quick to think it is something I am doing incorrectly.

I'll echo what Britney said - just wait it out.  Some people do wait until the last minute to accept.  If you did get someone with an inactive account, you're doing yourself and other PBS members a service by letting it time out and roll over to the next book in line.

PBS is great for learning patience!

If you are getting notices about other version of hte book being availalbe then it sounds like a WL book. Don't cancel!  If you cancel you will lose your place in line.  If you requested the book on the 7th then they have until 11pm tonight to accept it.  Some people take the full 5 days to accept. Doesn't mean they won't mail it-it could mean they need to get closer to a day off, payday or maybe they posted other WL books at the same time that are cycling through members.  I've held off book requests before for all those reasons.

It did time out after 5 days now I am waiting for a new member.  Patience....patience.  I guess if it were't the next book in a great series I would not be so anxious.  Thanks to all who helped.
