I love this book. Set in California at the end of the 1800s, it tells of the romance between two unlikely people - a ranger sworn to protect the redwood forests and a lumber baron's rich spoiled daughter. It takes the San Franncisco earthquake to finally bring them together. Charbonneau is a wonderful writer who writes in a spare, poetic style uniquely her own, her stories always touched with a bit of fantasy. The star of this story Matt is my all time favorite romantic hero - would that all men love women the way he does.

A historical novel set in San Francisco and the Sierras at the turn of the century. Nature, romance, hardship, murder make for a wonderful read. Happy Reading!
