I really want to learn how to knit, and I have absolutely no clue where to start. I've never even picked up a pair of needles! Does anyone have any good suggestions of where to start? Does anyone know of any books, magazines, classes, etc. that would be helpful? I'd greatly appreciate any advice! |

Sara, here's a link to an earlier thread about learning how to knit. I know there have been others (scroll through the topics here in Crafts). I learned the basics by taking some classes at my local yarn shop. The instructions were free (and lots of help along the way) except of course I had to buy the materials (needles, pattters, yarn) from that store. But it was great one-on-one instruction. Do you have a local shop? http://www.paperbackswap.com/forum/topic.php?t=147257 |

Sarah, There are loads of how-to videos on knitting on youtube. I would also suggest you rush over to Ravelry https://www.ravelry.com/account/login and join the fun:D Linda LindaBear on Ravelry |

I learned to knit two years ago by using the videos on www.knittinghelp.com. You can watch over and over until you get the steps--after that it's all about practice. |

Go to my web site at SewingWithTom.com . Look for the section called "Yes You Can Learn How To Knit!". It'll just teach you how to do two stitches, so you'll want to get a book afterward, but I've tried to make it easy to get started. Anyway there really only are two stitches, everything else is just variations on how to use them. |
