I am afraid.  As I read the information on how to play I get confused.  And the number of games is mind boggling.

Can anyone tell me which game is the easiest to understand?  And would be the best for a first time player?

I read just about every genre but horror.

Hi Janice! I just started playing games about a month or 2 ago. Once they start going, you'll find they're not nearly as confusing as they sound. I recommend either a regular elephant or Daisy chain without any twist to them. N.K.  just opened sign ups for a new game. She's a great hostess and her games are always fun :) When you start your first game, just let everyone know it's your first. All the players are so helpful and patient. After all, they had to play their first game at some point :)

Janice, don't be afraid, jump on in!  I know before I played any of the games, I was pretty nervous and never thought I'd understand them.  It really is easier to understand them once you join one.

For a first time, I'd look for a regular elephant swap without any twists.  Just let the hostess and the other players know it's your first game.  They'll help you out if you ever don't know what to do.  Even if you do make a mistake, it's not a big deal.  Even people that've played lots of games make a mistake.  No one's going to get mad or anything about it.

Just pick a game and jump on in.

Let me add my "Jump right in!!" advice :)  Be sure you have a book that meets the requirements of the game and then sign up!  Every single person (players, hostesses, and mods) are more than happy to help out new players!  We were all new at one point.

The one Jolene mentioned - "A Charlie Brown Christmas" Elephant Swap **TAKING SIGNUPS** - would be a good one to start with.

Yup ... same advice. I played in a few games last year and they were a lot of fun. I just asked questions if I wasn't sure what to do. Nobody will mind!

I just have to say, contact the hostess when starting a game.  If they know you are a newbie, then an experinced hostess will help and explain things.  I started my first swap last month.  We had three newbies in the game.  The other players were very helpful after learning newbies were there.  (Although my books were stolen.)

No worries Janice.  I was intimidated at first also, the games look complicated when you're just watching!  But I thoroughly agree, the hostesses and players are really nice to newbies and the games are not as complicated as they appear.  As mentioned, elephant swap or daisy chain (without twist) are the most basic games.  Go for it!!

I jumped in a few months ago with an "easy" one - it was a simple elephant swap, and as a newbie, I also got help. Since then, I've been in several. Lots of fun, don't hesitate to play!

I held off for a long time too- the rules used to seem intimidating to me also.  Once I jumped in though, it was actually pretty easy to understand.  Be careful, though... it's easy to get "addicted" to playing in the swap games!  :)  I just started a few months ago, and I've played in quite a few now.

Just jump in- they're fun!  Everyone's really helpful, too.  Just start with one, and when you see how much fun it can be, you'll be waiting for another one to start up!  Elephant style swaps are the easiest.  I usually try to "watch topic" on my games, and check my email at least a few times a day so I don't miss any game PM's that might hold up the game for too long.  I also keep track of my games (ones I'm currently playing in, what I've revealed, what I'm sending, and what I'm receiving) on one of my bulletin board lists, so I can make sure I don't forget anything.

Good luck and have fun!  :)
