I am trying to get the book "The Notebook"  by Nicholas Sparks in hardcover for my wife.  I have tryed several times to get it but it just sits at "waiting for member"   forever.  I cancelled and tryed it again and same thing.  Been trying now for like 2 months to get the book.  Anyway I can find someone that has it and request it from them.

Michael -- when you cancel and re-request the book your request goes to the same member.  It'd be better to wait it out as, after the five-day waiting period is up, the request will go on to another member (and this helps weed out inactive members).

Alternately, you could go to the Book Bazaar, ask if someone has a copy of the book, and then you can forgo FIFO and hopefully get your book more quickly.

My suggestion would be to request it again and just wait, not cancel.

I see 31 copies of the hardback version in the system.

A member has 5 days to answer whether they can get the book to you.  I'm guessing that the first person it was requested from never answered the request - in which case, the request is automatically forwarded to the next person who has the book....  if you cancel, then request again, you start all over again - and the system here is that the first person to post the book is the first person the book is requested from.  So... when you cancel, and then request again, it sends the request to (what is probably) that first person that never answered... and you end up waiting the 5 days again... give it a couple of weeks to make its way through to someone who is checking their account.  With 31 copies in the system, it will get to someone who is ready to send.

Yes, better not to cancel: The sender hasn't responded! Should I cancel?

I believe i have the book on my shelf, hehe. But it would be nicer of you to wait on the people it's going through. I doubt i am number 2 on the list but i'll get there eventually. =)

One trick is to go to Box-o-Books list under the Community menu:

Community >> Box - o Books

Then you can do a search to see if any boxers have it and order it directly from their bookshelf.
