Just before the holidays our local Blockbuster started carrying brand new hardcover novels from Bestseller lists for only $7.99 each. I only bought one cuz I had a lot of books on my Christmas list and didn't want to duplicate.  Imagine my surprise when half way thru the book I discovered a page with damage that would make it non-postable on PBS.

Since then I have read in forums more about unpostable vs unreadable books.  So BUYER BEWARE!

Funny you should mention this. I was in our Blockbuster for the first time in years today (I have Netflix). Imagine my surprise to see a table full of books at 75% off in the middle of Blockbuster.

I was wondering why. Now I wonder if they bought "seconds" or "damaged goods" to sell -- legally, that is. Sort of like outlet stuff.

(sigh) - so now we have to use extreme diligence in checking thoroughly the books we buy new!  Amazing!  Thanks for the head's up!

i just sent out a copy of a book that had several pages repeated. this is an older book though, mass market type. its not too uncommon, i got this book originally at a dollar store.

Would that be considered unpostable here? I ask because I have a copy of A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man by James Joyce that repeats the first 50 pages of the novel twice. I haven't posted it into the system because of other problems, but if it was perfectly postable otherwise, would the repetition of pages render it unpostable?

not that i know of. i DID however make sure to inform the requestor about the issue, and i clipped the repeated pages when i first got it. the requestor said to send it, so i sent it.

that is, clipped as in paperclipped. not removed..
