A coming of age novel about a 13-year old boy, Lewis, living in Paris with his beautiful mother, Alice. This is the summer that the bewitching Valentina beckons from her sofa, and Lwis discovers an exquisite new world filled with passion and intrigue. Valentina subsequently disappears and as Lewis tries to find her, wondrous secrets turn sinister. it is at once a mystery story, a psychological exploration and a novel of ideas.
