After hating the first book of the One-Eyed-Jack series and being disappointed in the last few Black Ops books, I was glad to read this one. It's the second one of the One-Eyed-Jack series featuring Mike Brown's brother Ty and Jess (also Jeff and Rabia). Jess and Ty were introduced I believed in the last Black Ops book "Last Man Standing."

Jess is the widow and Ty is the retired military pilot. Both are emerging from grief of losing someone. Jeff, Jess's husband, is the "Killed in Action" green beret who escaped 3 1/2 years of torture in Afghanistan rescued by the young widow Rabia. Out of the two parallel stories I found Jeff's and Rabia's more interesting. Jess and Ty's were kind of typical but still sweet. Of course when Jeff is found and returned to the States these four people have some major decisions to make.

It was a really captivating read. There were some actions scenes and some cameos by the Black Ops guys. Mostly though it was just about the lives of everyone affected by war. Good job by Gerard. It's a little different from her other books.
