This is a hard sf novel about a plan to make elevators to space versus using rockets. The author was the president of the American Astronautical Society at the time and seemed to think this was a real possibility. I can't say I agree with that. It's a decent enough futuristic novel dealing with asteroid mining, future drug addiction, space diseases, and interplanetary slavery. If you're a fan of this type of story, give it a try. It was a little to dry to me, though.
