A young English girl raised in a sort of commune run by her tyrannical grandfather, a painter, yearns for a more normal life.
She meets a man and becomes engaged, but his possessive mother threatens their relationship. As with all the novels of this unfortunately overlooked writer, The Wedding Group is astonishing in its level of insight and elegance of its prose.
