The Name "Wedgwood." ONSIDERABLE observation leads to the conclusion that the name of "Wedgwood " almost always appears on Wedgwood ware, whether it be old or modern. But the name has many and various additions by way of workmen's marks and marks of periods. The character and size of type in which this name is impressed, or imprinted, as the case may be, is by no means uniform, but varies in both respects considerably. To speak first of the name Wedgwood. It is generally given in capitals. The size of the letters varies from -jL- to -i. of an inch in height. In the very small and fine works the letters are exceedingly minute; but with a glass are perfectly clear and legible. Sometimes the name is given in small or lower case letters (not capitals) formed like old italics, but upright instead of slanting -- thus This mark is never found on modern work.
