Does this sound right to you?

I dropped a book off (I used tracking) in Lenexa, KS. It always routes though Des Moines, IA. So far so good, but then it goes to Bell Gardens, CA. Here's the issue...the book is supposed to end up in Henrico, VA. I checked other books I sent out, none are going to CA. What do I do now? It sounds to me like the book is going to be lost or something. Thank you!

Eh. Sometimes books wind up in the wrong truck. Just wait and see (particularly as there is pretty much nothing you can do about it).

A postal clerk once told me that the scanners can misread the bar codes and send books in the wrong direction.

Bell CA is known as a black hole for stuff so hopefully it won't get hung up there.

Just because a package gets misdirected does not mean it will go lost or never reappear.  The probable outcome is that the package will get sent along to the correct area within a few days.  Remember, a book has 4 weeks to reach the requestor before it is declared lost by the system.

I just checked tracking on a book I sent to CA - it says:

So, I have no clue what's going on.  Go figure...LOL

One should never order a book which is needed by a specific deadline, especially if it is a short deadline.  Once the order is placed, it could cycle through a couple of bookshelves, at 5 days per bookshelf, before the order is accepted.  Then the sender has the option of having up to 7 days to get the book in the mail.  Once in the mail, then there is another 4-week time allotted for the book to arrive.  So, if the book cycles through  3 bookshelves before being accepted, the book could conceivably take 50 days to reach you from the original order date.

In my experience, most books that I order will arrive within 10 days.  But, I never assume that I will receive any particular book in that amount of time.
