Almost a month ago a wishlisted book I requested was mailed to me with delivery confirmation. But no information has been recorded beyond that of "electronic shipping information received".  I know sometimes it takes the P.O. a couple of days to scan the info so that it shows up on PBS, but almost 4 weeks? Then I started to think that maybe the sender actually didn't mail the book but thought I'd give her the benefit of doubt so I sent a friendly PM asking what's up/did she have any idea what could be going on? Well, she promptly replied with a short, curt nope--but that it left her mailbox.  Hmmm, so I'm still scratching my head.

Has anyone experienced this? If so, did the book ever show up? If not, any thoughts to enlighten me or actions to take? And when the system declares it lost (in about a week), will I be put back at the top of the wishlist?

You will be put back to first in line on the WL and get your credit back if the book goes lost.

It is pretty common for DCs to not get scanned enroute if the book is put in a box and not taken to the PO to be scanned right then. I have noticed that almost anything I send to the east coast doesn't get scanned until delivery.

I would recommend you do nothing at this point. It does take longer from some books to get there, who knows why or where they go in between, but it happens. The system is set up to handle it if you don't get your book. You get your place back in line and your credit to reorder your book. If the sender used printable postage, they have their credit already, if they just used DC and the book is never scanned, they can deal with getting their credit from PBS, its not your problem.

Hope your book shows up soon.

Regina - I'm not really sure if this will help or not, but I did my first DC that I printed here, took the package to the PO today and she immediately scanned it.  Now, I don't know how long it will take for it to show up here, but do know it was immediately scanned by the PO.  Pat

Go to usps.com and enter this tracking number:  0306 0320 0001 7543 9256

I mailed that April 28th and it STILL hasn't made it.  I've gone through the post master, the main number, the postal inspector, and their aunt agnes all to be told "sorry no refund that happens. "

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr......

Just sent a book with DC again... at least it made it to TN from Florida. We'll see where it ends up (or not)

I've mailed books from home with DC that were NEVER scanned.  It's possible.

I had one experience like this - it was a wishlisted book that was going to an address less than 20 miles from me.  I sent it by first class mail, and it was never scanned.  I kept checking, and nothing - just "electronic shipping info received".  I PM'd the person who ordered it, and she never got it.  It was finally declared lost.

Then about a week after it was declared lost, I got a PM from the person - she said it finally showed up!  We both joked that I could have walked to her house in less time than it took the post office to deliver it.

I've also had books that weren't scanned even when they were delivered.  It's not that common, but it happens, if the mail carrier doesn't bother to scan it.

I ordered a book off of someone's bookshelf.  They mailed it on April 2nd and it was confirmed at the post office that day.  It then disappeared.  Two weeks later PBS confirmed it lost.

It appeared in my mailbox today.  I looked at it's travels and it spent the entire 7 weeks at the post office where it was mailed!

Unbelievable.

This is just the situation I have encountered ..but I PM'd the sender and got no reply whatsoever.I had waited about 3 weeks to PM .I was just wondering if the person printed the DC /wrapper and had forgotten to get the book mailed for some reason.I have gotten a book just recently that took over 2 months to get to me...I just can't figure out the mail situations sometimes!! Thanks for posting this discussion.

Wow.  I have only been with PBS for a few weeks now.  I've gotten a bunch of books mailed to me and I've mailed out quite a few already as well.  I haven't encountered any problems thus far (knock on wood), and I really hope that it doesn't happen!  I'm a bit impatient sometimes, lol.

I requested a book on 5/14.  The computer said accepted & printed for about 10 days.  The DC info reads that I requestred the book on thr 24th when it was mailed.  can't figure out what happened to the 10 days in between.

Dolores -- the first person who got your request printed the wrapper but never clicked the "Book Has Been Mailed" button. The site automatically canceled this request and ordered the book from another sender for you. That's why you see the new request with the new date on it.

I buy the DC from PBS, but it doesn't get scanned at my little outpost PO.  It has to go to the main county PO.  And that PO is the absolute pits.  They have lost more of my mail than I care to remember.  I had one PBS box of 5 books sit there unscanned for 3 weeks.  The requester was quite annoyed - to put it nicely.  She reordered the books about a week later (long after it was declared lost) and of course the books showed up just after the new sender had mailed the same package of books.  Now she's really  annoyed.  I like when my DH can mail it from his office which is in Northern VA which has it's own main PO that ships out from there.  My PO sends mail first to the county PO (the bad One) and from there it goes to Richmond.  Unfortunately, DH can't always do that...he has a terrible memory and I dislike worrying about whether the books got mailed.  At least, if I mail them here - I KNOW they were mailed and can verify it.  Right now, 2 books due to me are apparently sitting in the county PO - they've been scanned in for 3 weeks.  No delivery in sight.  The senders are getting annoyed (there's that work again!).  That is the MAIN reason I buy DC... it insures that I get credit.

I'm sorry your book is not arriving.  I've had a few never show up here.  (oops tealfroglette logged into check toad's/hubby's account)

We've had a few things with DC go missing we've sent.   I've been a member for years and when books started going missing without DC i was wondering what was up.  One of our postal workers was fired and i hope put in jail for stealing gift cards, movies, books etc out of the mail.  I think she has or had something to do with those ten books or so.  I'm not sure if she had anything to do with the missing dvds since she was suppossedly fired before then.  We've had dvds sent back and the dc shows nothing of that.    I did mess up once and put dc on the book, stamps and stuck it in the mailbox. It was 14 oz so it came back and none of that was on the DC.    I pm'ed the receiver and then took it to the post office.  on our rural route we used to be able to send with just DC heavier books but no more.

We've had books that seem to 'sit' in the post office before scanned for some days.  Right now on my 'books mailed list' are three or four that appear to have not moved one bit from the post office closest to my house. I think they now wait until the box is big enough to put it on the truck.   The post office in the town near me had a delay with the rural route carrier bringing the books to them, or in their scan of the raw mail from the mailboxes on our streets.  Then they were faster than the little one by me.   However, three days ago I mailed a book and it is yet to show received.

I was not beta for pbs if there was such a thing, i was for dvd and cd, but i was told that the reason the book name wasn't printed on the outside of the wrapper was because hot new books were stolen from the mail.   A few books delivered to me with the new style label on them that says the book name in the box for 'message for the sender' have arrived but that is probably because they had DC.

I've not seen anybody steal a book from my mailbox, but credit cards have not arrived here. At least ten in the last two years have not made it.  I saw a pickup truck, dark blue, at my mailbox one day and immediately called our police department.  My camera wasn't good enough to get the license plate but the police said they've had other calls but about a black pickup. This was dark navy so probably the same one just different light or people's color perception in the brilliant alabama sun.  I wonder now if the blue truck driver didn't steal the four dvd set i mailed with DC that has never shown up in the system.

I've never gotten a book, cd, or package with DC that wasn't scanned eventually.    I have gotten a box on a Wednesday when the DC claimed it was delivered on Tuesday.  I figured that was part of the rural route stuff.

good luck, i hope you get your book.

At least the sender responded so you know they are alive and able to send the book.  Hopefully they did!

I'm still waiting on a swap book that was mailed almost a month ago.  She used DC as required.  I put the DC# in the PO tracker and it just says that the DC was assigned on 5/1.  Nothing after that.  No enroute scans, no scan at drop off-nothing I think it's passed the receive by deadline for the swap.  Hopefully it'll get here soon and they'll give her her credit back since she used the required DC.

Well, the book I requested finally was declared lost (bummer) and I was placed once again on the wishlist (but on top of the line, thank goodness!).  I'm happy to say that another copy is being sent to me--that was fast, too!  I wonder how long the original copy will take to reach me, if ever.  Now that I have another copy coming, I can wait without pulling out my hair....

Mary,

am I missing something, I did not know DC was "required"? I am new so I could be wrong, but I don't see it listed as required, only suggested. I just want to make sure I know the rules:)

duh! (smacking my forehead) do you mean required as far as getting her credits??

Toad --

I've been a member here for two years and the book title has never been on the outside of the PBS wrapper, if it is properly wrapped.

I would not like it at all if the titles of my books were plastered all over the wrappers.  My mail carrier and the people in my building do not need to know which books I am reading!

Denise - if you are playing in the swap GAMES DC is required.  But not on a regular order.

Books I have mailed from home almost never get scanned until they are somewhere en route, but usually not until they are scanned when delivered.  Books I mail at the PO and paying for at the PO get scanned immediately with the scan posted overnight.

However, I recently had 2 books that I used DC for but paid the postage with stamps.  I took them to the PO, ostensibly to have them make sure my postage was correct, but also to have the DCs scanned.  Well, not only did they make me add some more stamps (I was sure the stamps were right -- they said the books weighed what I thought they did, so that wasn't issued), but even though the DCs were scanned when the clerk verified postage, nothing went into the system until they were scanned en route or at delivery.
