This is Book One of the Voodoo Moon Trilogy. It starts you on the trail of the Louisiana werewolves and the series won't let you stop until finish the last book. A quick and breathless run, hot and full of wonderful wierdness much like Old New Orleans herself.
I read this one with anticipation - but was let down with the overall effect. Here is the back cover blurb:
