I watched the tv epic, then bought the book because there are so many characters, I couldn't keep track of them and finally listed them and who relates to who on the inside back cover of the book. A sad tale of the complexities of cultural clash -- colorful characters. A good read.

From wagon trains and the Gold Rush to Little Big Horn and the massacre at Wounded Knee, Into The West captures the clash of cultures that defined western expansion-in a compelling saga that brings American history to vivid life.
Great characters, VERY good read.
