On my Dad's first birthday after he died, we (my siblings and I) went to Mom's and had a fabulous dessert and wine and tried to top each other with stories about Dad. We laughed and cried and laughed some more. Since Dad loved "good food and drink" it was a great way to mourn and celebrate his life when we were not still in shock like we were during his funeral. Is there someplace you would especially remember him or people who also really loved him so that you could both mourn and celebrate the good things of his life with. Make sure it feels appropriate. One family I know arranges a family golf day in Dad's honor, another went to a football game, friends went and helped at the local animal shelter to remember a friend who loved animals, and my cousins drank good Scotch together on the front porch of the family home. Be sure to take especially good care of yourself for the entire first year after a major loss. Best wishes.
