I read some books from a series years ago and can't remember author or titles. Does anyone know this series? Some info I remember. The more white hair you have the more powerful your magic. At the beginning Dragons ruled the continent and each dragon had its own color. the purple dragon had been killed ina previous war and someone named the Griffon had take over his territory. The purple dragon was known for his immense library. The main character is an untrained wizard who eventually stumbles across a magic mansion and finds a beautiful woman trapped in amber. Another notable character is the dark horse or void horse. Can't remember its name. It was born from the void and took the shape of a hhorse but was sentient and can absorb things since he is made of the stuff of the void.

is it a YA series?

I read it when I was a freshmen in High School. It was in 1999 so it was published before 99. Not sure if Young Adult or not.

Think I found it. The Dragonrealm series by Richard Knaak.
