This is a tough book to review due to all the hard to believe goings on in the story. That being said, I appreciated the humor and the quirky characters. That is what kept me reading. We have an ex who leaves his wife and two girls to find himself in Santa Fe, then there is the grandmother who is a scamming fortune teller and been married five times. The ex comes back and stays with his ex-wife and pretends things are normal, even when she is caught red handed with another guy. The grandma shows up in an RV with #5 husband and takes over. Soon the ex and grandma kidnap one of the daughters and they're off to Santa Fe, leaving husband #5 to suffer a heart attack. When she finds out, she says it's nothing to worry about because he's having a drama fit. It wraps up neatly at the end.

I got this Advanced Reader Copy at an author's convention 6 years ago. I kept putting off reading it, always finding another book I thought would be more interesting, etc. Now I wish I had read it right away. This is a GREAT book! The author has brought the perfect blend of craziness, conflict, romance, and poignancy to the pages. After the first 2 days of reading, I had read 175 of the 302 pages. For someone who reads fairly slowly, I couldn't put the book down. It's about a 35 year old woman who's cheating, unreliable husband up and leaves across the country to Santa Fe to make his fortune, leaving her with 2 small daughters, ages 10 and 4 to raise by herself. As time goes by, she realizes life is better on her own. She has a wonderful friend that drinks wine and analizes
all her problems. She tries the dating scene. Then the "Crazy" part starts. Her Fortune Telling Madame Lucille comes into town in a motor home with her 6th husband. You would think this would just lead to a scattered story that might be a bit shallow. Quite the opposite. Lessons are learned, love is relearned and shared..... A spine is grown (thankfully). I didn't want it to end. This would make a great summer read at the pool or a great winter read in front of the fire. 5 stars!!!!!
