my daughter is 16 and very openly gay the funny thing is she doesnt have any problems with the straight community what i find is she has more problems in the gay community its a small one but let me tell you they find one another all the fighting that goes on between these girls drives me crazy one day there friends and the next there in wars i know there still teenagers but there brutal i try to stay out of it but its hard not to when my daughter tells me things and i find also when girls break up they still stay friends when i broke up with a boy good riddens but not these girls i hope im not offending anybody but am i missing something..i guess my ? is is this normal or is it becuase ther community is so small just sometimes stumped... one more thing i also find there not much into fighting against the srtaight community do you think thats because of ther age or things are so much better granted i do know things still happen in the world but do you think its becoming easier for the next generation.. I Suspect your daughter is being a typical teen and her behavior has very little to do with the fact that she happens to be a lesbian. :) I'm not sure what you are asking in your second question. |

I think your daughter is pretty normal. Its probably mostly because she is a teenage girl. I do know most of the lesbians I know do remain friends with their ex-girlfriends. I don't know why, so I have just accepted it. I'm 26 so let me put that as a disclaimer, but I've often asked older LGBT individuals about their experiences and compared them. There seems to be less open hostility between the LGBT and straight communities. There is still homophobia and transphobia that runs very deep and it may take generations to unseat it, but it isn't as bad as it once was. But there are a good many people who still hate us and I've recently heard much more of it than I needed to hear. I think it comes as more of a shock to hear homophobic and transphobic comments in this day and age from the straight community especially from liberal people. The worst stuff I have seen so far is the infighting in the LGBT community though, usually as it comes down to the T folks. |
