I'm new to homeschooling so I thought I'd get a survey of what you all do on the first day  and or first week of your homeschooling.

Well I'm part of a co-op so first day will be at co-op, but after that I'll probably try to get organized (I know should really do that ahead of time!) and give them a schedule of what needs to be done that day and that week and then just work our way through it.  Nothing mind blowing here!

Actually I've just realized DD has a voice lesson first thing that day, so obviously we'll go to that and try to stay motivated the rest of the day.  I hate to do a class first thing especially on the first day back but that's just the way it worked out.

DD who's 10th is almost totally independent so I'll probably just keep checking on her to make sure she's getting everything done she needs to do.  DS (5th) takes much more hands on supervision, so I'll sit with him most of the day probably.

First day of co-op is this coming Monday - summer was over way too fast!

We celebrate "Not Back to School" day.  We have lunch at a special restuarant, discuss the year, then go to either the zoo or a museum while it's EMPTY!  :-)  We try to do this the first or second day DD goes back to PS.

My son did not have much of a schedule the first two years preschool and kindergarten.   This year he is 5 years old and will be starting first grade.  I am surprising him with a racing theme for the first month of school.  I will decorated our living room with checkered flags and surprise him with disney car folder, notebooks, pencils, lunch box.  I am going to try to make school very fun since he will be doing for workbooks this year.  I still need to get checkered flags ( he is always with me) therefore I have not been able to travel to party supply stores in the area.  O h well,  I will make it very special with or with out the flags.

We definitely celebrate Not Back to School!  It's the best time of year.  No lines or crowds at any major attractions.  No school groups, yet, because schools are not taking trips the first week.  So we like to go to the beach one day, a museum one day, and we usually attend a Not Back to School picnic in a nearby park with other homeschoolers at the end of the week.
