I don't know about foods that will help, but I do know a few to avoid. My problem was with food sticking in my throat, sometimes leading me to throw up because of a gag reflex. Stringy, dry meats like poultry or beef (but not ground beef), and starchy foods like breads and potatoes would usually cause it. Pot roast and mashed potatoes was a double-whammy and would cause it every time. The doctor said it was because of inflammation due to acid reflux. I've been on the generic for Prilosec (omeprazole) for a while now, taking as needed, and haven't had any problems since.

a good and very effective natural remedy for acid reflux is to dissolve about a teaspoon of baking soda into a cup of water, stir, and then drink. Baking Soda (sodium bicarbonate) is a base that will neutralize the acid in your stomach. But be careful, baking soda contains salt so you don't want to take it too often as it will raise your salt intake. but great for when your reflux is raging. after you drink it, you will then burp and then feel better. |

I've had wicked acid reflux forever and now take Nexxium for it. However, when I went on a pretty much gluten-free diet, I found I need a lot less Nexxium. My son has much less of a problem when he takes less Motrin or Tylenol. My sister does much better is she avoids sugar. So, my advice is to keep a log noting when the problem is most severe and what you ate or drank in the 24 hours preceding. It seems it is not the exact same solution for everyone, but I bet you can spot some diet issues that will indicate a few couses of action to lesses the problem. MP |

Avoid = alcohol, fat (ice cream), acidic food (tomatoes, lemons, organes), chocolate, pizza, SODA (carbonation) Helps = PPI (nexium, prilosec), increasing elevation of chest and head when sleeping so no acid goes up into esohphogus, NEVER EAT LATE AT NIGHT, Try to eat small portions and not huge one. |
