Hey everyone! I have a relatively new children's book that was published in Canada that I would like to post, but the ISBN's aren't in PBS yet. There have been several nearly identical editions of this book published in the past, so it's possible for me to post the book under one of those, but I'm not really comfortable posting the book under the wrong ISBN. :-/ Posting it without an ISBN seems wrong, too, since it does have ISBNs and I want it to turn up if anyone searches on it. What to do here?

Sarah

How long has it been since you first searched for the ISBN? Sometimes it takes a day or two after you first search for a new ISBN to come up. If it has been a few days, then you need to post it without an ISBN. It is against the rules to post the book with the wrong ISBN. If it is popular enough and the other versions are wishlisted, someone will find it by searching the author or the title. You can also post in the bazaar that you have the book on your shelf to promote it.

Yes, it is against the rules to post to a different ISBN.  We have a number of Canadian and European ISBN's in the PBS database, I'm surprised your's isn't getting pulled in.

Try the ISBN at Amazon (seems to use the same database as PBS) and see if it shows up.  Check your ISBN here daily for a few days and see if it migrates into the system.

Otherwise, you can post your book with a short ISBN or in the book bazaar.

Actually, you should be able to post it under the correct ISBN. Just involves a lot of data entry. I recommend searching for the ISBN in the Book Broswer several times. This should trigger the system to go looking for the data. Please do not post it with a short ISBN if it has a complete ISBN.

If searching for the ISBN doesn't bring the listing into the system, enter the ISBN in the Post Books page.  (If it turns green, it's a valid number.  If it doesn't turn green, it means the number doesn't work as an ISBN.  See if there's a different number on the title page, or on the publisher's page, which is the page following the title page.)  Click the "check" button, and a page will come up where you can enter the title and other info from your book.  If you can't weigh your book, leave that space blank.
