Although some chapters are a little dry, others are written in a lively, interesting style. (Each chapter is written by a different historian.) Some fascinating scenarios are created as we ponder the ramifications of Kennedy not being killed, George Washington failing at his first real skirmish, and others. It really makes you think about history as real stories about real people, and how some events turned on a dime.

If you are looking for alternate history stories, this is not it. These are 17 historians, not science fiction writers, and they are too attached to the details of history to speculate too much about what might have happened.

This is one of the worse books I have ever read. I found it to be very dry and boring. True knowing what the United States might be like today if history had turned out differently I felt like I was reading and textbook.
