Earlier this week I came across a member offering a deal in the book bazaar. I messaged them with a possible 4 for 1 deal on a childrens series. They responded back 2 days later saying the deal was acceptable, they were new to doing deals & unsure how to go about it, but wanted me to order all 4 books & that they would refund 3 credits. I responded that I didn't have 4 credits and explained to them the typical way deals are done, told them I would go ahead & order the 1 book & told them if this was unacceptable to them to let me know so I could cancel on my end to prevent roll over on my end & them losing their place on fifo. Didn't hear back for a couple days, then today she responded saying in a somewhat confusing manner but what I believe to mean is, she got too many orders  & is only able to mail the actual book(s) that were ordered by members. However I noticed her shelf had 134 books after I ordered the one for my deal & today it says she has 133. So either only one other 1 credit deal was done or 1 single book was requested. No other deals have been posted in her book bazaar offer either. So I responded saying if she is unable to complete the 4 for 1 deal discussed, I'd cancel because the book I'd ordered was #4 in the series & I didn't have 3 credits to order the others at this time. I just came back to check in & see that she has already gone ahead & accepted & printed for this order, but it's still showing my message to her as being unread. When I'd sent my message she had not yet even accepted.

I really do not want this book if she is unable to complete the deal, but now can't cancel on my end. What can/should I do? Ask her to cancel or what if she goes ahead & just ships it?

I don't know that there is much you can do at this point. Deals are on the honor system.

I would send her another message saying that you had sent her a message already that you did not want the book if she couldn't honor the deal agreed upon, but that her printing the wrapper has stopped you from being able to cancel on your end. Because this is her mistake you would like her to cancel the transaction on her end (since that is the only place it can be cancelled now).

If she goes ahead and mails the book without the deal, you will need to mark it received, but I would put in the comments that a deal agreed upon was not honored and the request that the transaction be cancelled was not honored either and I'd also send in Feedback about it. If she did the "deal" offer and then didn't honor it on a lot of people, the site would likely have a talk to her about honesty.

Do you think it's worth trying to contact tptb & asking them to cancel at this point?

Because looking back at her message I'm pretty sure she only plans to send me the 1 ordered & even calls herself a welcher, which is basically admitting she is swindling members by offering a deal & then not honoring it. Now rather others took advantage of this supposed deal or not I don't know.

TPTB wont cancel the request. They only cancel requests if the sender requests a cancellation. That's a very firm rule. If she only sends the single book, definitely send in Feedback about the member.

I figured tptb wouldn't do anything but because of the messages exchanged & unanswered it became pretty clear what the senders intentions were so wasn't sure if they could go off those messages to cancel. And just as I suspected the sender mailed the book this morning without reading my messages thru here (altho I'm sure she read them via email) because she went ahead & shipped with DC which she didn't have the little flag on her account before today so she knew exactly what she was doing using printed postage to ensure her credit.

What angers me the most is in my second pm to her explaining how the deals were done because she clearly didn't read the b b rules before offering her deal, I'd told her to let me know if she was not comfortable doing the deal so I could cancel! Once she found out I wanted to cancel she quickly printed & marked shipped a book I can't use because I don't have the other 3 she was supposed to mail with it. Very frustrating! But I'll just wait until the book arrives & go from there. I really hope she didn't swindle too many members with her fake deal offer! Out of my almost 6 years here this is a first for me so I really shouldn't complain.

I would report it because she could keep doing this to other members who might not have the guts to say anything. They can read your PMs back and forth and let her know that stuff like that won't be tolerated. You  may not get your book request cancelled but at least you might help prevent her from doing this to others.
