Mitch Peabody was learning pretty fast that the life of a private detetive was not all it was cracked up to be. Cheating husbands, suspicious wives, unsuspecting mistresses--case after case left him cynical and disillusioned. This was nothing like the world of tough-talking detectives and smart-mouthed, stunning dames he'd envisioned....until she walked through the door.

Right down to her stilettos, Mae Sullivan was a knockout with a lethal body--and a lethal family to go with it. There was something not quite on the up-and-up about her, but she came with a case he couldn't afford to refuse...and left him with a case of lust like he hadn't had since hight school. It didn't take long for him to fall for her, hook, line and sinker. But was Mae only interested in catching the double-crossing crooks who murdered her uncle...or did the lady want to catch him.

This book follows Crusie's successful formula. However, like all her books, the dialogue and surrounding plot (other than the man and woman meet, decide they'd never get together with each other, then wind up doing just that), make it an enjoyable read. Although I could do without the detailed sex scenes, I like that she always mentions using condoms.

As usual with her books, Crusie wrote a funny, sexy novel. Great characters and lots of fun.

Fun, quick read about a missing diary, a stockbroker-turned-P.I., and Crusie's usual gang of quirky supporting characters.

This book was a fun read, kept me wanting to read more and more. The author has written an interesting and different sort of plot and the story features characters like a dumb-as-a-box-of-rocks pet dog and relatives with mafia type personalities and behavior. The women are gorgeous regardless of age or I.Q. The hero is a stockbroker acting as a private detective (as a result of a bet with buddies) Maybe not completely plausible, but hey, it's fiction.

I didn't enjoy this one as much as some of the others by this author. It's still a fun, easy read, but I was a bit bored.

Nothin' like a dame . . .
