I have a few books I'm unsure whether or not are postable. Some have whilte showing on the spines, most have 'squished' corners and white showing along the top, bottom, and the spine of the cover. Some have slightly 'bowing' spoines, and others are a bit yellowed with age. Are these postable or should I just put them in the Bazar?

Thanks so much for your time,

Amber

VG? You mean 'very good?" or something else? It sounds to me like they are fine. Wear is normal, especially for older books. Spine creases (the white that shows through) are fine as long as there isn't separation and pages falling out. Creases in the covers are fine as long as they aren't ripped. Squished corners are fine too as long as they aren't actually torn. And age yellowing is not a problem at all.

If you get a requestor condition stating something like they want "like new" or "very good" condition, I would probably turn those down, but they certainly sound postable under the general PBS guidelines.

If you go into the Help Center and type the keywords "book condition guidelines," you'll find a complete list of what does and does not make a book postable here.

If a requestor does have "VG" as a condition, here are examples of expectations from 2 other sites (Amazon, ebay) that list book conditions:

  • Very Good: A copy that has been read, but remains in excellent condition. Pages are intact and are not marred by notes or highlighting. The spine remains undamaged.
  • Very Good - Doesn't look brand new but has no easily noticeable damage to the cover, all pages undamaged (no creased, torn, or missing pages), minimal underlining/highlighting of text, minimal identifying marks in margins or inside cover, very minimal wear and tear.

Please note that this is NOT a PBS expectation and may not be the expectation of the requestor, just examples of book ratings that some people may be used to seeing.
