Here's the situation:  I clicked the PM button for a book that is listed as enroute to me on my account page.  It's been over two weeks and I was just getting a little antsy.  Wasn't going to send a pm yet, just curious about the sender.  Anyway, the sender's name is in black, not in blue like a link.  You cannot see the person's profile, shelf, or even send them a pm.  I've never seen this before.  Is the account still active?

Yes it just means they never took the time to set up a profile.  Many members never do that.  They just trade books and don't bother with the forums and such.

Thanks, Mary.  I went back and checked again, and I do have the capability of sending him a pm.  I've been a member for 3 1/2 years and I don't remember ever getting an order from someone that I could not see their bookshelf.  Probably I just had a brain fart.  8-)

I think it means the member has their account set to private.
