Sometimes a shortened version of a book will be published.  This shortened version is considered abridged.  I don't think it's common for MMPBs to have abridged versions.

Mostly that term applies to audio books, but an abridged (or condensed) version of print books sometimes does exist too, though more rarely. An example would be the Readers Digest Condensed Books. Any book that is shortened in some way should be clearly marked on the cover somewhere or on the package for audiobooks it should say Abridged or Unabridged.
