I've read some erotica but not a whole lot. (Lora Leigh, Sunny, a few Maya Banks, handful of other stuff).

I'm looking for recomendations of where to start. I like any type of story (sci-fi, paranormal, historical, with my least fav. being just straight contemporary). And I would probably prefer at least one woman in the story (not much into male/male).

So, Where would you guys say to start?  And what do you think are the top 10 authors or your top 10 favorite books in erotica?

Thanks!

Ooooh, good topic!    I'm interested in seeing everyone's favorites. I'll get a list together too. It might take a bit to actually decide which are my all time faves. Mine are mostly contemporaries. I don't read too much paranormal erotica, and almost no sci fi.

My tastes run mostly towards the "out of the ordinary" catagory

Laurann Dohner's New Species series (genetic splicing - m/f)

Laurann Dohner's Cyborg series (cyborgs - m/f)

Laurann Dohner's Zorn series (alien m/f)

Samantha Kane's Brothers in Arms series (historical - m/m/f)

Strangers by Barbara Elsborg) (m/f)

Beth Williamson's Devils on Horseback series (historical m/f)

Eve Langlais' Cyborg: More than Machine series (I'm on a cyborg kick right now)

It seems to me that difference between some romance and erotica is mainly some of the words that are used.  In fact the language part is the only thing that bothers me about the erotica.  I just can't see a woman saying some of those things.  That and the fact, that often they seem to start in the middle.  I like to start when the character meet not after they've known each other for years.  That being said, here are some of my fav's that have written erotica, but at the bottom I'm going to add some other fav's that are called romance but are pretty close to the other in my mind.

I like Sarah McCarty, she does paranormal and cowboy, very alpha male.

Maya Banks, KGI Series and Colters both were very good.

Samantha Kane, Brothers in Arms just sucked me in.

Mari Carr has a series based on Monday child is ? and goes thru Sunday very good.

L James Rough Rider series

Cherise Sinclair's Master of the Mountain was a very good book and I'm not into the Sir stuff.

Shayla Black is good

Lori Foster all her books are alpha males and steamy

Christine Feenan very steamy

Linda Howard some are very steamy .

Thanks for starting this thread, I now have new authors to read.

hmmm top 10... well I'm basically with'Nancy on the vanilla and I think we have the same line drawn as far as  the dom 'ness I can handle(though I did make one exception for 'sir' or similar type wording)

Lisa's Gift (this is the exception because it seemed to be used only when they were 'playing'

Promises Linger - Sarah McCarty - read all 4 in this series and liked them but there's some violence (not by the hero or not intentional) that I don't care for

Calista's Men -Jory Strong (liked all in this series) one of the few menages I love

Forbidden Pleasure - Lora Leigh-anotgher of the few menages I love

Abduction - Varian Krylov - this I dont understand- it's erotica and hot but it's like psychological rape which is NOT my thing yet this book held my attention. I find it disturbing yet seems to be well wrtten for the subject. so far it's been my one exception in that it's forced and doesn't seem to be a ;love' story and I prefer a good romance along with the sex- even in erotic romance.

Blackmailed

MIdnightt Man/MIdnight ANgel - all 3 were pretty good but I like the heroes/heroines best in MIdnight Man and Midnight Angel(MIdnight Run I think is the other one)

ooops forgot for paranormal I also like Shelley Laurenston

I loved Shannon McKenna's McCloud Brothers series but I don't consider them erotica.  More like steamy romantic suspense.  Same with Maya Banks' KGI series.  I recommend both series but they're not really erotica.  Well worth the read though!

Sophie Oak also writes as Lexi Blake.  Good stuff no matter what name she's writing under!
