I got a wishlisted book today that is clearly water damaged. In the two years I have been a  member, I have never seen one so clearly ruined. So much so, that I will probably throw it out instead of sucking it up and reading it. My problem is this...the sender hasn't even marked the book as mailed yet. So do I...send the pm asking her to mark it mailed? Should I warn her that it was damaged and I will be marking as received with a problem, or just not say anything? Or should I just wait to see if she marks it at all because if she doesn't then the transaction will be cancelled and I will go back in the system as #1 for this book. I really want to mark it as a problem so that PBS knows this is not a reliable sender. To make this even weirder, I was checking out her WL and she has this same book on it that she sent me. she has no profile so I can't tell when she joined (unless there is another way).

I have no idea what you should do...it is a tough call because if she marks it mailed and you mark it received you will give her a credit and you don't know if she will return it or not.

I would probably wait to see if it is marked mailed and then take it from there

If you receive a book, you must mark it received.  Mark it RWAP.  If you do not, I believe you can jeopardize your membership.  It stinks to lose the credit.  Until recently I have never had anyone not agree to give me my credit back.

If she never responds, and never marks it mailed, you will regain your space in the wl line and get another copy.

Good luck to you.  Maybe if you send feedback to the team they can better advise you.  :(

EDITED TO ADD:  I just read in another post that if the sender forgets to mark the book mailed, it is your choice whether to give credit or not.  Sounds like you are in a catch-22 here.  So the way I see it, should she never mark it mailed, you can choose not to give her the credit.  If she marks it mailed, you have to RWAP it (and ask for the credit back!).  Sorry to be so confusing.  Just trying to help :(

I guess the next step is up to you, as long as you ultimately mark it received.  :)  BTW:  you can do a forum search for any posts she may have made by searching her user name...that could tell you how long she's been a member.

Janet--

One thing, check and be sure the book is from the same sender.  If they didn't mark it mailed, it may have timed out and been passed along to another sender.

I had checked to make sure it was from her because I knew the book was still in my "books requested" tab. I searched her nickname but she hasn't posted anything. I think I'll wait it out, not much else I can do until she marks it mailed, I guess.
