DH just got back from the Middle East.  He brought home Wolf of the Plains by Conn Iggulden  with the ISBN 9780007201754.

I went to add this book to my TBR pile, more to find out if it was a wishlist book while trying to decide if I'm actually going to read it.  The screen told me that the ISBN is valid, but the book is not currently in our system.  I did a quick search for the book and it isn't in the system anywhere.

Would it be better for me to self enter it or to wait a week to see if the system catches up with this book?  Just trying to decide where to spend my time in the next couple of hours.

I would self enter it.   Or maybe send a PM to one of the moderators with the info.  It comes up all over the place when you google the numbers.

Are there other books by this author available? Is it a new release or a more obscure book?  I would self enter it personally. You have the ISBN. You can probably find a lot of the info for it on Amazon or Barnes & Noble to fill in the blanks.  If the author has other books that are WL-most likely this one will get snapped up pretty quickly. If not, at least it'll be on your shelf.

I've had this happen with books not published in the US.  Our library often has UK published copies of books.  When I list them here I have to do it manually, as if there were no ISBN.  Is it possible this book was published/printed outside of the US; for example, it was purchased at an airport overseas enroute?

Best wishes for a fantastic start to the New Year with your hubby being home!  YAY!  :D

Edited to add:  Yup, I just Googled the ISBN and it was indeed published outside of the United States.  Hence, the recognizable ISBN number which is worldwide but at this time, not recognizable in the PBS system.

I've had this happen too with this MMPB with a UK price next to the ISBN (theend of this URL is the ISBN):

PBS clearly doesn't accept the ISBN of a book printed/published outside the US. I see no technical reason this couldn't be handled. Could this have something to do with trying to keep PBS users all within the USA? Clearly, non-US books find their way into the USA, but is there some reason PBS doesn't make it easy to enter these books?

I don't think there is any conspiracy here Ben. PBS just draws its info from a low cost database that doesn't have a lot of the non-US published books.

Ben, I'll ask for feedback on this subject. Interestingly enough, I just tried a UK published book which is of a genre in high demand and it was readily accepted.  Maybe they are just starting to add them little by little; maybe it was the genre. In any event, I'll see if R&R will respond to this thread.  I just got back from the UBS and almost half my books have been published outside of the United States.

If you post it manually I believe the system might still pick up on the Title and offer it for waitlisters with the email notification though... won't it??  I've gotten several of my WL book from these "book similar" notices; I never checked to see if they had ISBNs or not, just accepted.  :)
