I just tried to list The Three Musketeers by Alexandre Dumas, ISBN # 1559029838 When I entered the ISBN it came up as Call of the Wild by Jack London (I think)--not at all the same book!! It's not a sticker that was placed on the wrong book, because the ISBN is imprinted right into the back cover of this book (paperback).... ????????????? |

I think you'll just have to post it without an ISBN. I've had a couple books come up that way, too, and that's what I did. |

The tour guides informed me the member can request their point back and will be entitled to it. I just listed mine in the open Book Bazaar and hoped for takers. Layne may be right about the way she's doing it! Never tried that way and am a newbie myself.

Did you check the ISBN number on the inside title page as well (if there is one there) in case the one on the cover was a misprint? If the number on your book comes up correctly @ amazon.com I'd report it as a problem under CONTACT US explaining that it's fine at Amazon so it's obviously a correct number. |

Hi Patricia,From the PBS Help Center: Problem: the ISBN brings up a Listing Preview showing a totally different book than the one you have:Explanation: This happens when publishers assign ISBNs to more than one title.
Solution: You will need to post this book with a customized listing for the book, using the Post Books without an ISBN link on the Post Books page. |

This happened to me once and I was not in a hurry to post, so instead I submitted my book's info on "edit book data." I checked in a few weeks later and the edit had been approved, so apparently the book HAD been listed wrongly in the system. Once the edit was approved I listed my book under its ISBN. Of course, this won't work if there actually are two books assigned to that ISBN. |

When this happened to me (Passing for Thin by Frances Kuffel), the number on the back cover brought up the wrong book. The number on the inside was correct. |

With the Jack London Call of the Wild coming up you wont be able to get it changed. There are 6 or 8 books put out under that ISBN all of them are classics like The Secret Garden, The War of the Worlds, The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyl and Mr. Hyde. I dunno what company put them out but I got all of mine at Wal-Mart as 2 for a dollar books that they handed out for free during Literacy Week when I worked there. When it was over they gave the left overs to us and only a few of us wanted them (there was a ton left over) They are gonna hafta be listed as no isbn books cause the ISBN is for all of them but the system can only list one at a time. |

I've got a couple of those from Wal Mart, too. (a friend gave them to me to give to my neice, and she just gave them back to me a few weeks ago to post--I haven't gotten to them yet--I hate having to post without ISBN) |

Kristen, I hope this doesn't upset you, but I have to post it, so that others don't read what you said and think it is ok to do it. Please do not use the "edit book data" to make a listing match your book. An approver may well find the second listing information and approve your submission, but that then means if someone else has a book posted to that listing and someone orders it, they are going to receive the old title, which was there when they listed their book, but now it is different because you changed it to match your title. When there are two books with the same ISBN they will very probably both be found on the Internet. The other listing was correct or the person wouldn't have listed their book to it. Just because your change went thru, doesn't mean that your change was correct, it means a human volunteer made a mistake in judgement and allowed it to go thru when they shouldn't have. Once a book is listed to that ISBN, the second book to come along and use it, does not get to steal the place, just because it can be done. I would think if you put yourself in the position of the member that had listed the first book, and someone came along and changed the listing to show a different book, you might be a bit upset. Now they have a book on their shelf that doesn't match the listing for it. |
