I've been the same way lately.  Maybe you just need a break.  Of course if you're like me you have a mountain of books, many that are WL that you need to get posted before you move. Oh and I bought 20 more books today.

I've kind of been that way myself.  I've got 5 or 6 books sitting here and none appeal to me.  I've started trying to read slower - maybe I'm reading too much too fast?    Maybe you could try reading one on your keeper shelf.

When I get that way, I try to look for something in a different genre than I usally read. If I can't seem to find a romance that holds my interest I try  true crime or a biography etc.  and that usually helps.

I've felt that way before and I typically either read an old favorite or ty something from a different genre that I've been meaning to read.  In fact I am going to do that tonight - I have a SciFi mystery that I need to finish (Grave Peril by Jim Butcher) before I start another romance.

That happens to me too. When it does I head for my keeper shelf. I also think that the more books I read the higher my expectations become. I know there are great stories out there so I don't have a lot of patience for the ones that don't grab my attention in the first few chapters.

I usually get that way when i have too much going on in life or way too much on my mind and cannot seem to concentrate on just one thing. I just do other things around the house that i have been putting off or do yardwork, take walks, etc. Until the urge to read comes back again.

I get like that too!  I find that I need to switch to a new type of book.  Western/SEALS/Dukes/Highland.

I have to switch around too...cozy, something more 'thriller', then erotica, funny romance, funny sorta romance, etc and thanks to my huge-mongous tbr pile I always have something if I can find ti! but sometimes I'm just not in the mood to settle down and read.

I'm the same way Tanya is. If get to feeling burntout on reading doing something around the house really helps as well as changing genres for awhile.  I tend to swing between hisorical romance, to suspense to fantasy/paranormal for the majority of my reading, with some non-fiction every now and then for a change of pace.

When it happens to me, and it does quite often these days, I head for my keeper shelf. No pressure because I already know the book is good! I call my keepers my 'fix-it' books.

Yep, I head to the keeper shelf too when nothing on the TBR pile sounds good.  Sometimes I read the whole book again, sometimes I just skim thru it.  That always gets me going again!

"I also think that the more books I read the higher my expectations become."

I'm having that same issue. I keep thinking, surely there's a better book I could be reading?

I hate to say it but PBS has almost ruined reading for me.  I still love to read. But I set myself up because I got all these WL books. Now I feel like I have to read them and post them and that's making me not want to read them.  But I can't seem to stop buying books! Ugh.  Oh well. I'm just going to start reading books I feel like reading and if they aren't WL anymore by the time I get around to them then so be it.

Mary, I don't even look at my tbr pile any more. I was reading all the wishlisted ones and got to the point that I wasn't enjoying the books.

I have been in a major slump for over a year now. I went through a lay-off from work, hubby being laid off and working extremely early hours (5 a.m) so I'm still trying to get my book groove back.

Yes that's where I am now.  I'm just going to read what I feel like reading WL or not.  If one of the books turns out to be no longer WL by the time I get to it chances are it will still be requested pretty quickly anyway.  I'll take my chances.  Because lately I find I am skimming books just to get them posted to someones WL.

Mary and Cyndi--I have been doing the same thing...trying to read the WL books so I can hurry up and post them. The book I'm reading now is one that is not a WL and I find that I am enjoying it more because I'm not in a hurry to finish it.

I'm in a terrible slump right now. The last few books I've read and/or tried to read just didn't do much for me.  I guess I'm spoiled for really good books.  May have to re-read my keeper shelf until something good comes in.

I have a suggestion on a book that will get you going.  Outlander by Gabaldon; you'll be addicted.  Beginning of a really good series and best book I ever ever read!

Claudia - I have the whole series and it is fantastic!  I may just read it again until I get back in the swing of things.

Guess I should have noticed "outlander fanatic" in you signature line!  Hope the next one comes out soon.  Those 1000 page books take too long to write!

I currently am reading 4 books.  I read a couple chapters of one, get tired of it and pick up the next.  I am lucky that they are all pretty different stories and that I am not getting them confused.   it might take me months to get thru' one book but at least I'm not bored.  it's working for me  :-)

Ok so I've taken the pressure off myself and read a couple non-WL books.  I've also read a couple WL books. Actually I skimmed them because they weren't holding my interest that much.  One was the 3rd in a trilogy. It was easy to skim because it had a lot of flashbacks and having read the 1st 2 recently a lot was rehash.  But now it's on it's way to someones WL.  I started a non-WL book today.  It's the first of a series and I have 2 more that are WL.  I was tempted to read them out of order because of that. But no, I decided to read them in order.  If one is no longer WL by the time I'm ready to post it oh well.  I'll get over it.  It's not like I need the credits anyway.
