I have an unpostable book that I am giving away free to another member (posted at the top of bazaar forum).  Of course, I don't have the usual wrapper with postage marked on it to send the book.

I don't use PBS postage, so this isn't about that. What I want to do is save myself a trip to the PO (its not over 13 oz. either). I want to know how I can find out how much postage this book will cost me, so I can put the proper amount of stamps on it.

Please, don't tell me to go buy a scale.lol

A couple options Connie.  1.  Media Mail is $2.38 for up to 1 pound, so you can just add your own stamps and mail from anywhere as long as you're sure it's not over 13 oz.  2. Amazon usually lists book weights, look up both of yours and add them together with an extra bit for wrapping.  PBS help has a list of Current Postal Rates.

If using PBS DC, you will need to add .19, or .80 for USPS green sticker DC.

Try looking up the book in amazon.com - it often lists the product details including the shipping weight.

If you have a paypal account, you can print the postage label from there

Thanks to you both, Denise and Judith. You gave me great options to look at. The book is 'On Mystic Lake' and according to amazon.com, it weighs 11.2 ounces. Where on PBS can I find the list of current postal rates? It sounds like what Denise said that it will cost $2.38 for it to go Media mail. Does that sound right?

Connie - if it is a book that is currently available on the site, you can create a label pretty easily. Just post the book to your shelf and then use the Mail to a Friend option that is on the details page for that book. That will take you through the exact same steps that you would do to mail the book through the system. It will put the book in your Books I've Mailed and Enroute To You tabs. You just need to mark in received yourself to clear it out of there.

Yes an 11.2 oz book would be $2.38 Media Mail.

Wow, Melanie, that is so neat. I will go and 'try' right now. Thanks so much for that info.

It worked! Awesome, I learn something everyday here!
