A couple of days ago, a member requested a book from my bookshelf. I found the book and printed the wrapper. Tonight I received a message from her saying that a student of hers was anxious to read the book so she bought it. I was planning on wrapping the book and sending it out tomorrow morning. She said she would cancel the order if I hadn't mailed it yet, which is fine. But the problem is I printed the wrapper out already and don't think she can. I posted this book in 2010 and it had over 200 people ahead of me who posted it at that time. I don't want to lose my spot in FIFO as I waited almost 3 years already for it to be requested and was happy someone did. So, now what do I do?

You can ask PBS to cancel it.  They can cancel it without you losing your place in the FIFO.  I'd just copy her PM when asking them.

And this needs to be done before it times out.  If that is close, you might need to mark it mailed, then ask for it to be cancelled.

Thanks Emily, I will do that now. I did have until the 25th, so not too bad.

Book is still on my list for books to mail. Haven't heard anything back yet from the PBS team, but still have time. I sent my feedback in during the night at around 2:30am.

I don't know why the team isn't answering my feedback. I pmed the sender to see if she can ask them to cancel her order and hopefully they will.

PBS will only cancel it on the sender's request if the label has been downloaded.  They usually get back to folks with 48 hours.  But I imagine that they are swamped with these postage DC issues right now.

The requestor CANNOT request that a book order be cancelled.

The SENDER has to contact them.

It won't matter if the requestor points them to a copy of your PMS or whatever. That's their policy.

So, Connie, it won't matter if your book requestor contacts them or not. As long as you have contacted them, they will do it based on that.

Ah, thanks Sara. Both of us have contacted the team and the book is still on my list. I will recontact the team tomorrow as it will be the 23rd, if book is still there.I really don't want to lose my place on the FIFO since I had on shelf for 3 years.

Give them time, there are hundreds of thousands of members and I believe only one teammember handles answering Feedback. I would wait to contact them again until the 48 hours they say it can take has expired.

Even if it gets cancelled automatically because you never mark it mailed .... PBS should still be able to put you back in the FIFO line. So, I wouldn't worry, even if they are taking longer to answer than normal.

If the book is still on my to mail list tomorrow, guess I have no other choice but to mail the book out. I have sent in two feedbacks and the requestor sent in one, all with no responses. I received a final reminder to send it out by tomorrow. I sent a pm to the requestor that she can post the book if she likes when she receives it. I don't know what else to do. I know one thing, I don't want to be #142 on the FIFO list again.

You can actually ask PBS to cancel the order after you mark it sent. They should be able to put you back on top of the FIFO list.

I agree.  No need to mail the book.  Even if you miss the deadline, whoever gets to your feedback request will be able to place you back at the top of the sending list.

Well, it's past the 48 hour period for all 3 feedback requests to the team. Still no response and the book is still on my shelf. I have always received quick responses from the team but not in this case. When the receiver first sent me a pm saying she already bought the book, she did mention that if the book was already packaged and ready to go then that is fine, too. I'm going to go ahead and mail the book since she said that in the first place. Otherwise, I really can't depend on the book being placed back at the top of the sending list. It took 3 years already to get to this point of being requested.

If they haven't responded, it means they're innundated because of some issue (perhaps the Post Office DC scanning thing), or that a weekend was involved.  You really can count on them to move you back to the top of the list on this, if you ask.  They'll be able to see your feedback requests and the other member's PM.  They are smart and very capable -- there just aren't very many of them. :-)

If your request is canceled, send in another feedback message mentioning that you wrote before it was canceled, that you realize this must be a busy time, but could they please put you back to your former place in the sending line, and give them the name of the book and the ISBN.  You might be at the end of the line for a few days, but It seems to me this is better than a member getting a book she no longer needs.

Happy to report that all is good as our great PBS team responded this afternoon by canceling the transaction and placing my book back at the top of the sending list. Yes, I can understand them being busy with all the feedback they must have received with the PO issue, plus tossing the weekend in there. I think being that today was the last day to mail it out was making me a little on the nervous side. Thanks everyone for all your help, especially Patty and Emily.:)
