I'd appreciate any reasonable ideas for a homeschool classroom.  What would your ideal classroom be?  What's a reasonable size of the room, whether you build one or pick an existing room in your house?  How are your classrooms set up if you have any?

So far, I'm thinking of a reading corner with bookshelves, an art corner with art supplies easily accessible, a science "lab" area, ... possibly a tv area (for educational purposes, of course!)??

Of course, if there's a book on how to design/build a homeschool classroom, I'd be very interested in getting a copy!  Anyone have something like this?

Many thanks for your ideas and tips!  :)

Hi Jody,

I think we all have different rooms and different set ups, I find it helpful to read how others do it, some have classrooms some just a kitchen table.

For me I have a art table, Its a fold up plastic table and under it is plastic bins with art supplys in it. I have lots of art supplys, so I also use a cool coffee table that has a deep hide away in it. We have our school day in the den, because there is lots of light that comes through our big windows.  I have a desk for me, and right in front of my desk is his desk, this way we face each other. I let him pick where he wants to do his work. He can do it any where in the house as long as he does it. He seems to enjoy being in here with me.

He has his own computer, that is in the livingroom. He works on Spanish at night and plays his computer games at night. All learning games.

I have book shelfs everywere. We have them in the den, in the bedrooms in the living room and kitchen. Cook books in the kitchen. Story books in the bed room. History, science, reference, and school books in the den and living room.

The most enjoyable place he likes to work is Outside on the porch, or at the park. We some times pack a lunch and go to our state park and sit and do our work. Durning breaks he gets to play on the play ground. Its really fun to do. We even do it in the winter, we just dress warm. I find he does better where he picks to learn. Just pack up the books and go.

We have a kitchen table with cabinets full of bins and lots of bookshelves!  We also cuddle on the couch to do school.  If I had more space, I might like to have a separate table so we didn't always have to clear off for lunch, but otherwise I don't think you need anything elaborate.
