Hey everyone , do you know how long it takes someone to respond to a bok request ?

I ordered a book from someones shelf on 8-16-09

it was accepted on 8-20-09  as of today 8-25-09 , it still says Status:  accepted.  Thats beebn a total of 10 days.

Its not as though i dont have anything to read , ..Its just frustrating because there is only 2 copies in the system and I tryed to order from someone else and it says" you've already ordered it on 8-16 , And if I cancel to order from someone else, it just takes me back to the same person's shelf.

I posted this same question a while back. I even contacted PBS.  According to PBS, your book was accepted on 8/20/09. She has five more days to mark it mailed. So, at the end of today, 8/25/09, it will be cancelled if she doesn't mail it.

Connie is correct she has 5 days to mail the book after it is accepted.  Or if she selected can mail by button there should be a specific date.  If she doesn't mark it mailed by then it will flip over to the next person.  I a member marked a book I requested just before the cut off.  Now if it is mailed is another thing LOL.  I just had a book I was sending and I had two days left on the 5 days.  I rec'd on my account page before I went any further that I should mark the book mailed even if I mail it the next day!  So I did what I was told. However then if member looks at the date it is mailed a day later than what is on the details - it will look fishy to the receving member.  However I am sure PBS will ignore it if they are reviewing someone's account because they are the one recommding it marked mailed.

If the person accepted it, and hasn't marked it mailed, most likely they're having a hard time getting to the post office or can't afford the postage yet. But if they marked it accepted, I bet they haven't forgotten.

hi lisa.  i think we all know how frustrating it is to wait for a book, even with the massive TBR piles at our houses!  i know i get frustrated!  :)

once a request is sent to a person, they have five days to accept the request.

once they accept, they have to choose whether they can mail within two days or later.  i always choose the last day possible for mailing, just because you never know when life will get in the way!  i typically mail on mondays and thursdays, but for instance, this week i was really sick and couldn't mail until saturday.  i was glad to have those couple of extra days!

in addition to that (which i believe is five or six days to mail for the latest date) there is also a two day grace period for the sender to mark the book mailed.

if the book isn't marked mailed by, i think 3:00am EST on the last day of the grace period the request will flip over to the next person in FIFO.

hope that helps!  good luck getting your book!  :)

Same thing happened to me Lisa. I requested a book on the 16th, it was accepted, and today I got an email saying that it was cancelled because the sender has not responded in the alloted time. I was just put back in line on the wish list.

If you've been cancelling and reording then you are just giving that person more time.  Let the system run its course.  If it times out the book will be removed from their shelf and it'll request another one for you.

Lisa, it sounds like you cancelled the order and re-ordered--if so, you started the same 5 day period all over again with the same member, just prolonging the process.  As the others have said, try to be patient and let the system work.

Hey everyone , do you know how long it takes someone to respond to a bo[o]k request ?

Yeah, five days short of forever!

I am not a big fan of waiting 5 days for a response, but to gripe about it, I discovered, results in a new rotten tomato outfit courtesy of the PBSophile Squad.

Letting the system run its course is an exercise in torture for patience-challenged people, but it has to be done.

P.S. I am on day 28 for one book request. Crazy, ain't it?
