Highly recommend reading for everyone. This book is not so much about losing weight, but informing us of the health consequences of eating grains and resulting digestive conditions that ensue and other health issues. I thought I was health conscious, and have been on the road to eliminating carbs from my diet, but reading Wheat Belly Total Health has been eye-opening to why all grains should be avoided. Every page has a horror story of the havoc grains have on the body. Think oatmeal is the perfect breakfast food? Think again. 1 cup of cooked, organic oatmeal has "50 grams of net carbohydrates . . .or the equivalent of 11 teaspoons of sugar . . .this give it the glycemic index of 55 which is enough to send blood sugar through the roof. . ."
