Today, a PBS buddy suggested a book to me and said that she was number 1 on the list. She was hoping I would hurry up so I could be 2nd on the list. When I clicked on the book, there were 0 wishers. Then I went to my buddy's wishlist page and there's the book. How could this happen?

Well, it is possible that you're not looking at the same edition of the book -- she's got ISBN 123 on her list, and you looked at ISBN 456, etc.

Is there more than 1 version or she is on hold?

If you are looking at the same ISBN, she could be on hold.

If she's on hold, it shouldn't show up when someone else looks at her wish list, should it?  I've never tested it, so I'm not sure.

ETA: Good to know the WL still shows when you're on hold -- I never seem to stop learning here on PBS ;-)

No, it doesn't...if it's on individual hold, anyone else looking at her WL won't see it, and of course the whole list is invisible if it's vacation hold. It's possible someone posted the book and she is in that 'one hour remorse' period or something.

I have noticed myself that the number of wishers showing in the book details and the number showing when I add a book to my WL is off by one or two books, not sure why.

This is not true, unless they changed the feature recently. Before the WL hold came in effect, I used to have my account on vacation hold all the time and my WL was visible to others but they couldn't post books directly to me (when somebody has her WL in vacation hold the 'post this book' button is not available.

Well, my account is currently on vacation hold, so someone can click my Wish List button and test it if they want.  :)

Your wishlist is available Alisa but I wouldn't be able to post a book directly to you while you're on vacation hold.

Thanks everyone! After again looking at her wishlist, there are no post a book directly buttons, so she must have it on hold. Never knew that you could still see their wishlist  if they had it on hold.

If she's on hold that would also explain why the wish list count isn't being affected.

Whee, I learned something new today! LOL I just assumed that since you could not post directly to someone's wishlist on vac. hold that it wouldn't be visible. Considering the number of confused questions we've had about that very situation, would it not make more sense to hide the WL on vac. hold and put up a notice like for the bookshelf--this person has their account on hold?

I could have sworn that other people's wish lists were invisible if their account was on vacation hold!  Now I see that I'm mistaken--I too learned something new today!

I thought the individual books were also not visible.  For swaps, until I actually have the book in my hand I keep in on my WL, but put it on hold.  I currently have 198 books on my WL, but according to my profile, I have 189--this would account for the books on hold.  I thought people were just able to see the 189 NOT on hold when they looked.  Is that not right?  It's hard for me to tell since I can't look at my own WL the way someone else could.

Shelia--You're right--if you have individual books on hold, they will not show up when someone looks at your wish list.  (I see 189 books when I look at your WL.)

For some reason, I had thought that when you have your account on vacation hold that none of the books on your wishlist woudl show up.  This is obviously not the case.
